Ahh, CJ, how I love Jacarandas.....
I missed them in Eureka, but really they didn't make sense there relative to the weather.
They don't make it in Albuquerque either, re weather, but they wouldn't be so as much out of context visually.
Anyway, they are one of my favorite trees. Back in Los Angeles in the landscape architecture business, though, we were always careful to clarify with clients that there would be a lot of blossoms -- some people think all that glory is untidy. Well, it is untidy, but oh, so beautiful, in my opinion. Tugs my heartstrings to see your jacaranda photo.
Neko posted this rather impressive hosta...
A word of warning, Neko: If Greenwitch sees that photo.... she will rip your heart out.
You would be well advised to replace that photo with a Passiflora actinia or some such thing.
A sweet dear like Greenwitch ? Nah, no way......right GW? To play it safe, though,I'll offer a jar of cherry jam featuring fruit from the tree outside the dining room window.
Mazzard Cherry
Prunus avium
Excuse me while I go out to pick some -- our resident robin is cleaning off the tree as I sit here.
My garden is looking rather sad these days. About two weeks ago, we had three days of heavy rain and as of yet, nothing much seems to have recovered. I have several petunia plants that seem to be dying, my potato vines are turning yellow, even the leaves of my geraniums?-and I have never had a problem growing geraniums!?- are turning yellow and dying. And I'm stumped. The only thing that's different from previous years is that iI hung a japanese beetle trap nearby and altho' I never see any bugs on these flowers (just my roses) there is the slight stench of death in the air. Could that have anything to do with the other flowers dying like this so early in the season? It's only July. Here in the South, these flowers should continue to bloom through September and even October!
It's actually not my garden but that of my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law.
Both living side by side, but sharing the garden (behind the houses, the complete origianally belong to m-i-l until s.i-l and family built their houes there
What did I want to say?
Ah, yes: m-i-l has some nice snakes ...
... and there's no bird in s-i-l's nesting box althought it says "occupied" ['besetzt']
Not much to look at today..

(raining)

(yesterday from the garden)
Here's a question for all you gardeners. Why did I go out today to buy epsom salt?
Don't think, this bee needed salt for her supper from lavender. (No idea, c.i. - I'm no gardener at all.)
epsom salts when disolved in water makes a decent foliage fertilizer but don't overdo it.
..."Why did I go out today to buy epsom salt ?"... (i keep a carton in the shed

)
we give our tommy plants a shot of water with epsom salts to sweeten the tommies . we do it just before thay start to ripen and the improved taste has been remarkable .

Lovely, walter...... can you bump up the contrast?
We've had two days of wilty plants in a row.
Walter, it would be nice if one could see your pictures of larger file size.
Thanks, Walter.
I love the pleasant hue of those.
I think, these days are the last ones to see them in such way: they'll turn into bird sh!t very soon or "stuff" on the ground, which has to be swept away soon
Say nothing of little "presents" on the roof of your car, Walter!

These had already followed that course..

(cherry.. May, 29)

Great for the car, hey, Walter?
Bloody boids!
On the credit side, you will soon see similar tiny bushes appearing (where the birds have pood (sp?)) .... mind you, this may not be
exactly the spot you would have chosen for another such bush! Anyway, enjoy your profusion of berries, bushes & the summer while it all lasts!
