In my front yard, I'm trying to use most native perennials - they don't need as much fussing as exotics.

This Iowa site is good - he's already sorted them into red, white and blue and grasses and ... ... the white wildflower page ...

(and he has some interesting asteriod and astronomy pages)

I'm back! Balloon flower is a good one!

How about foxglove (pink)? Monarda (pink-red)(bergamot/horsemint/bee balm)?

we have some balloon flowers but they take so damn long to come out and they bloom rather late. They do look neat as an eyepopper in an area where some tall red flowers are needed. Im gonna check out the sites youve posted.
Right now Mrs F has cut peonies all over that Its starting to smell like a funeral parlor.

And, blues.... Beth's were good ones

Iris (Japanese, Siberian, German....). They go from short 4" to tall 4'. Do you have any wet gardens?

med-tall: monkshood, baptisia, lupine, giant columbine, poppy (there is an amazing blue poppy), veronica

short: jacob's ladder, plumbago, forget-me-not, flax, blue-eyed grass

and another pink - pink lily-of-the-valley for shade.

My poor garden is confused! Confused It's the ongoing drought, you see. But then: the odd day/s of downpour & the plants think it's spring, not autumn. I have plants that are about to flower way out of season. Roses that have developed black pot as a result of a recent deluge, followed by weeks of nothing. Still, all things considered, things are looking far better than you'd expect in the circumstances.

we are having a wet spring, but we had 2 unseasonably (if there is such a thing as an unseasonable day in New England) cold winters in a row.

What's the consensus on why you're in drought? Is there one?

Lol, it could be interesting to eat your weeds. *looks out at the dandelions in the garden*
There might be some interesting consequences! Smile

My weeds are looking happy too; it has been a great Spring this year, and all the plants in the garden are big and healthy!

Looking pretty good. Received the last of the annuals I ordered, need to pot those up today.
Put up the scarecrow yesterday, complete with straw hat, mardi gras beads and a lovely sheer, flowing skirt. The scarecrow has proven to be powerless over the critters in my backyard but she's pretty and my neighbor asked about her a week ago, anxious to see her so...
