Echi,

You can start with this article. If there had been no gambling casinos then there would have been no one for the Governor to extort money from for gambling licenses.

I really think you have let your animosity towards me get the better of you Lash. This was a crime related to gambling. Gambling is against God's laws. That is why I voted against it. And I believed the increase in crime (those related to the gambling) is evidence it is not a good thing and I gave aninstance of a crime related to gambling. If there had been no casinos THIS PARTICULAR CRIME would not have been committed. Rolling Eyes

Could you provide proof in scripture where gambling is outlawed by god?

Conning people out of their money is generally frowned upon.

If anyone wants to try to make a case that gambling houses operate on the level, I'd be willing to listen. I could use a good laugh.

Arella, help me understand this. You say gambling is against god's law and why you voted against it.

Can you explain to me why so many churches host/sponsor money-making bingo games in which lottery tickets are sold by church volunteers wandering the aisles of bingo tables?

If you don't consider bingo gambling, what distinguishes the jackpots won in bingo games from the jackpots won at poker tables?

The only thing I can tell you is that my church doesn't engage in these activities and I don't think any of the churches in my town do. Why do others? You'd have to ask them, Butrflynet, I can't speak for them or even attempt to guess at this.

Arella,

I don't understand your logic, here. In this example the casinos did not break the law. In fact, the casinos were the victims. By your logic, wouldn't you also be against banks and 7-11's?

Echi, please go back and read what I posted. I said crime had increased and I didn't believe that it was possible that none of the increase could be attributed to the gambling or the crime rate increased and I'm sure some of the crime had to do with gambling, something like that. And if you will remember I never said that it was THEE reason for the increase. Then I said I could give you some evidence of crimes related to gambling during the increase, which is what I did.

I think we've pretty much painted AM into a corner. I'm curious to see if she'll admit defeat to the logic we've lain out and possibly change some of her beliefs or if she'll fall back to her position of "I vote this way because I think it's the right way to vote and that all I'm going to say about that".

Grab some popcorn and let's see how this plays out.

Well I hope you enjoyed your popcorn while I took a nice long nap Maporsche. And just what corner do you think you've painted me into?

You don't agree with me so of course, I am the one with flaws in my logic? Whatever.

I have answered question after question after question. I have answered honestly. If you don't like my answers, well, it's kind of like being offended, Maporsche, I guess you decide whether you like it or not.

And Butrflynet I have to say you are the one person on this board I have not even felt the slightest judgment coming from you about my thinking process, logic, religious beliefs, etc. For that, I am greatly appreciative.

I think I understand what she thinks her viewpoints are, but I also understand that they don't make any sense. I'm trying to point out the nonsense in her POV.

Oh you mean like try to tell me I am WRONG? Why can't you just accept we have different views and leave it at that?

Rather than wagging your finger at her and pointing out all the "nonsense" why not ask her some thought-provoking questions that might lead her toward her own revised conclusions?

I'm a child of the 60's (as is Arella). I for one, usually dig in my heels and refuse to budge whenever someone like "the establishment" wags their fingers at me. Spend a moment rapping with me and ask some exploratory questions and I'm most eager to participate and learn something new.

It's that old vinegar and sugar thing regarding flies.

Between that and abusing small animals, how else is a big red blooded male supposed to have fun?

I had to think about this for a bit before I decided to answer Snood. Sensitive buttons? Yeah, I guess I do. But it would seem that concerning our rights we are all a bit sensitive, aren't we?

We may not all agree on how we vote, why we vote, who or what we vote for and why, but at least we all agree we SHOULD vote!

Oh and let the "bullies" have their fun. They aren't going to do a single thing but convince me that they aren't really interested in anyone's view but their own anyway.

YOUR RIGHTS!!!!!!!

You are the most dense person I've ever spoken too AM! I can not think of a more frustrating task than trying to reason with you.

YOU are taking away MY rights, and are somehow claiming that your's are in jeopardy. Have you totally lost your mind?

I stopped answering your questions because you couldn't be civil in your responses to me PERIOD! You kept deciding I was superior, etc., no matter what I told you I felt.

What right of YOURS have I tried to take away? Huh? Do you live in Louisiana? Has my vote in LOUISIANA about a LOUISIANA issue affected your right in any way?

Your vote for Congressmen affect me.

And I'm not just arguing against you, but also all of those who believe the same way as you do, for whatever reasons they believe that way.

Yeah, you are exactly the type of person I feel really comfortable having a conversation with NOT!

You just don't get it, do you? And you think I'm dense? Look, in the case of same sex marriage in Louisiana THERE IS NO RIGHT established so I am taking away nothing in voting no. I doubt we will even get to vote on this issue. It was just a discussion but you seem to have taken it quite personally (I undertand why concerning the gambling because you told us).

If you would, in any way, try to restrict my right to vote the way I SEE FIT to vote with MY vote, then yes, you would be trying to take away my right. Like I said, what makes your right more important than mine?

I think the only difference here is I am willing to accept that we have a due process and I'm willing to abide by it and not degrade others for their choices. Doesn't make either of us superior, more right, or anything. It just makes us different.

I'm done going around in circles with you. You have faith on your side, coupled with oodles of circular reasoning, which I just can't compete with. You are indeed my superior.

I bow down to your greatness.

GOD DAMN IT!
