Georgia would never be able to realize its internal reforms

In the context of conflict situation developed between Russia and ex-Soviet republic of Georgia I can only come over the opinion of our American leading experts, who advanced it for International Information Analysis Agency "Washington ProFile" not so long ago. I agree that such small and poor country as Georgian republic would never be able to realize its internal reforms without our timely financial backing. Moreover, in my judgment Georgia wouldn't able to pursue such independent foreign policy without US support at all. And our authorities should realize that Georgian government can take the liberty of acting out of line now only thanks to money of American taxpayers that Bush administration constantly directs to this "new democratic state". But as it turned out USA cannot to exert influence on stupid leadership of Georgia in order to help Georgian politicians to pursue more forward-looking policy and escape uneven confrontation with Russia. The matter is that damages, suffered by Georgia after latest Russian economic sanctions, will be so massive that nobody will be able to compensate them except of USA, of course. It means that our taxpayers will have to pay ready money for errors of Georgian leadership. And it will be a heavy burden of additional expenditures for us during rather prolonged period, because Georgia has no more sizable sources for its budgetary recharge than vine and food export particularly and first of all for Russia. Well, we put this pothead Saakashvili in office and now we have to get him out!

One of the odder features of this forum is that there is a poster - one and the same poster, we are surmising - who keeps coming back under different usernames, to always only ever post the one single rant about how bad the government of the Transcaucasian republic of Georgia is, and how devious or stupid its PM Saakashvili.

He/She usually forwards some eccentric conspiracy theory or elaborate smear argument. In this thread, on the other hand, he will cleverly simply argue that US financial support to Georgia is costing the US taxpayer dearly, and will pose a "heavy burden" on him. This argument should be regarded sceptically even just for the one reason: Georgia's entire population is just 4,7 million - distinctly less than that of the state of Maryland. Even in the unlikely case that the US would be aiding the Georgian government at an annual sum of, say, 15 USD for every single Georgian citizen, it would still cost the average American just about ... a quarter. 25 cents, that is. A year.

Now normally, when this poster appears, either Setanta or me would come along sooner or later and post some reply. Thanks to an improbable time glitch A2K appears to be suffering right now, however, this one time it appears I have the chance to actually preface his thread Razz
