Chavez Calls Bush 'The Devil'

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."
"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said, referring to Bush's address Tuesday. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

While Chavez's language may be extreme--after all, only Bush can speak publicly on who's evil and who isn't--the point about Bush talking as though he rules the world makes sense.

Other leaders may feel the same, but the US has the power to change other governments if we don't like 'em!

Well shucks! I've heard Bush referred to in much worse terms than "devil," and sometimes by myself. Chavez's radical extremism is interdependent with Bush's reactionary extremism; they're not all that different. If either one really wants to tick the other one off he should become moderate and rational, the only way either will ever become acceptable leaders.

I am mystified and hilariously entertained at the new cachet which Chavez enjoys among the leftwingnut lunatic fringe.

Who, in their right mind, gives a flying f*ck what Chavez says?

Whether some find it acceptable or not the truth is very many earthlings care about what Chavez says. America has never been so isolated as she is under Bushie. Chavez is far more respected on this planet than Bushie and the question is why? Rather than blame the oppressed we should be listening to their grievences to see if they are legit. For example Bushie can tell us over and over how much safer the world is without Saddam and how much better off Iraqis are without Saddam but would they not have been better off if the USA had not had Saddam on their payroll for decades and not helped install him as dictator and sold him WMD after he had used WMD? Is this saying of MLK less true today than it was yesterday? "The greatest purveyor of violence on earth is my own country".

Although Chavez may get more respect than the Shrub, that does not constitute evidence that his opinions are worthwhile, or that he does anyone a service by referring to the Shrub as "the Devil." In fact, the only point of such a remark is to get attention by means of an inflamatory remark, and it does not one whit of good to any oppressed person on earth, and offers no solace or security to the long-suffering people of Iraq.

All that's going on here is the leftwingnut lunatic fringe applying the dictum that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I see no evidence that anyone in that left fringe has carefully looked at Chavez, his policies or his rise to power.

This just in......

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One of President George W. Bush's fiercest political opponents at home took his side on Thursday, calling Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a "thug" for his remark that Bush is like the devil.

"Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference, referring to Chavez' comments in a U.N. General Assembly speech on Wednesday.

"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations," said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. "He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela."

Also, Congressman Charlie Rangel said this:

RANGEL: 'You do not come into my country, my congressional district, and you do not condemn my president. If there is any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not. I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president, do not come to the United States and think because we have problems with our president that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our Chief of State'...

I have to credit to these two, this is a stand up move.

Poor America. She wants the right to lie the world into war and commit mass murder without being called the Great Satan. She produced one man for whom we celebrate a national holiday. MLK. He said "the greatest purveyor of violence on earth is my own country". But let us never call the greatest purveyor of violence evil. Hooray for Chavez for pointing out that the meek, oppressed people of the earth are standing together and demanding change.

Good point! The Bush administration is nothing if not the best propagandist machine since Joseph Goebbels, Adolph's propaganda minister, and it does credit to the spirit of George Orwell's novel's "1984" Ministry of Truth dedicated to the spread propaganda. As you say, "War is peace," intolerance is morality, and compassion is kicking somebody in the pants.
