To me, the next step is raising public awareness. A thread like this is fine, but the public appears to be apathetic and I don't know how this can be addressed.
Edward Felten of Princeton University has produced a demo video showing how to steal an election within a few minutes of unsupervised access to the machine You can do this any time before election day. And because the virus deletes itself after the election, there's no trace it was ever there.
