Their Mums have put them down for the night and it has only just got going. They must be feeling a bit sleepy after the strain of watching Reading beat Man City which is a piece of cake with that pratt City have in charge.

What am I going to do?

I know.

I'll jump over to the Science and Mathematics thread.

It's early yet there and they might have got bored with their dinner as it rests, like a haggis, in the reception chamber of their digestive systems.

Ive just been listening to the radio about a blind man who has just been suspended for driving on the wrong side of the road. Shocked
He was driving at 35 miles an hour in Birmingham, I think.

He was also ordered to take an extended driving test. Question How can he take a test if he's blind?

According to BBC news
Quote:
Omed Aziz, 31, from Darlaston, West Midlands, who was being directed by an allegedly banned driver, was given 12 weeks in prison suspended for a year. ... The defendant, who has just three fingers on his right hand and suffers from leg tremors and is partially deaf ...

To answer your last question: He didn't have a licence

Mornin' Walter and Erik. See Reading play last night? They totally deserved their win, methinks.

Oh well, off to walk the dog. It's quite foggy here this morning.

Winter draws (and drawers) on!!

Lovely walk this morning....cobwebs everywhere!

Got some good photos and will post them later (also filched a big bag full of eating apples from the woods)

Where's MG, by the way? Probably drunk with the rest of Berkshire, after their win last night!

Thats a great story innit? And the quote from the arresting police officer is a gem...

Quote:
Pc Edge said: "I asked him if he could see me. He removed the dark-coloured sunglasses he was wearing and I could clearly see he was blind as he had no eyes."

policemen are trained to observe things. Nowhere better than in Birmingham, it seems.

(Erik, I think he had to take a test because he had no license. Therefore to stop him driving, they had to take away his license and in order to get a license he had to pass a test... which of course he wont because he is blind...so that if he did pass they would stop him getting it before they took it away...er hang on...think thats right. Anyway ITS THE LAW OF THE LAND, INCLUDING BIRMINGHAM)

Like two strokes of the cane is almost as good as one. Or is it the other way round in the upper echelons?

Spanky should know.

I think I see the logic. It just sounded strange when I heard it. I was assuming that he had a licence. If he is registered blind his doc would have been duty bound to report it to the DVLA. As he hasnt got one the court just threw that in to make sure he knew he wasnt supposed to drive.
Still made me chuckle though. Laughing

If you are convicted of a serious motoring offence the magistrate is bound to order "an extended re-test".

In the case of being convicted for driving without eyes, I dont think the test will be particularly extended.

Actually the more I think about this, the more I think its a case of gross discrimination against the visually impaired. Why shouldn't a blind person drive a car? Ok he might need a bit of help with seeing things, but surely thats why they have dogs. Provided the dog had good vision, and he had an extra long cane for poking out the window, I dont see any reason why someone with no eyes should not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle. And if blind people drove cars, it would make absolutely no difference to the standard of driving around here, if anything improve it. Its just another example of the shocking way this country treats its disadvantaged citizens.

And another thing...pilots. These days most passenger jets virtually fly themselves. If the instruments were in braille, there is absolutely NO reason imo....
