You hear lots of sirens when the dead and injured are carted away from a MUFC home defeat. Very Happy

I hear sirens all the time - as I live near the ambulance station/fire station/police station.

My brain must filter them out now, as it rarely wakes me up at night.

Another mild day...

Is it too mild to plant my one and only spring bulb?

I've got a hangover - The Eunuch and Linda were round last night.

twas worth it though - laughed my head off all night!

If the bayonet originates in Bayonne, does the omelet come from Omelle?

It's a 40W screw fitting...

Does this mean it's only suitable for containers?

I thought this was a hoax when I first heard it - but apparently not...

Muslims are not to be arrested during Ramadan, it's going to cause trouble...

Actually, the report says something a bit different ...

Quote:
Police in Manchester have been told not to arrest Muslims wanted on warrants at prayer times during Ramadan
.

I wonder, how often Christians are arrested in a mess

It would be a last resort for them to break the sanctity of a church, so common sense dictates you don't invade the sanctity of the mosque.

You wouldn't be having all this fun if we didn't keep the churches and mosques going would you?

It's a mad mad world..

(Walt, I'm intending buying a digital camera which will take colour and or black and white photographs, any advice please?)

No, not really - depends all on how much you will spend, if you already have good lenses, for what purpose ...

If you're a more engaged photographer (otherwise you wouldn't want to have both alternatives, right?), I would buy a digital SLR.
If you've already got lenses for a special brand and if those lenses can be used on digital cameras well - get one of that made.

If you want a (semi-)professional SLR-camera, the Nikon D200 is the only choice (the price-performance ratio is more than excellent!)
The new D80 will do good, however, certainly as well (has all the main features of the D200)!

Some food for thought there Walt, thanks.

I have a basic Olympus Allweather Camera which is quite good and reasonably idiot proof.

I want to take some particular street and night river photographs in the far eastern cities and basing my judgement on others I have seen doing this, black and white appear the most sensual in a photographic manner.

I'll try and get a look at the two type of Nikon you mention!

Cheers Walt

You certainly know that cheap throw-away cameras make as good photos as expensive SLR's.

But: it's not always the photographer - for really good shots of especially such scenes like you described above (and certainly, if you want later to have good, larger prints of that!) you need to spend some money ...

That is what I thought Walt, I could probably save considerably buying in Thailand or Singapore. Knowing my luck at Customs though, I would end up getting nabbed for the duty. C'est la vie and the Chancellor needs the pennies.

What price bracket should I be looking at Walt?

I suppose, everyone should do how she/he likes it best.

I wanted my camera .... before I went to the USA in May. Unfortunately, Nikon didn't produce so many as people wanted to buy - worldwide.
Thus, the price didn't get low at all.

I looked up the best price on the internet and told that my local dealer. Got one nearly as good ... but with that personal service only small shops can give.

Buying a camera of a higher price outside the EU isn't any good re warrant/guarantee.
And it's not really thaaat cheaper, mostly.

My camera has started to make funny noises. No doubt something is amiss.

Just come in from having a nice dinner at Le Petit Blanc, Manchester.
Not bad scran, not bad at all.

I have tried to avoid the ID thread as it seems to be for the intelligent.

And, deranged. But I'll have a peek.

MuckT,

I was in town the same time as you! And walked past that snooty Blanc place...

I'm at the pub quiz tonight (The Drop Inn, Wilmslow Rd, Withington). With my friends Matt and Linda, we are short of members if you want to join us...

I'll buy you a pint!

Spread it around more Dot. We don't want the stupified masses thinking anything else. They might improve themselves otherwise and that would never do.

I'm quite deaf, so maybe would not operate well in a pub quiz.....but you make it sound so tempting...

No, actually, I'll say 'no, thanks' as I want to watch Prime Suspect later and we're going to record Torchwood. I've been out for the last two nights.
But thanks very much. We'll have a pint, God willing and if you're still game, when I get back from The States.
