I should be off to sleep, but I've been being Chatty Cathy.
Perhaps I should warm some milk in a saucepan..

Just thought I'd mention that.

Arsenal is the only club, too, whose name starts with arse. Did I need to mention that?

Henry Miller said that he loved it when he could get them "chattering like a lemur monkey".

Good morning everyone. Where's Clary Mac? The limerick thread has become sadly neglected of late too.

Hey did anyone read what the Royal Society wrote to Exxon-Mobil? It was in the paper yesterday, and they were discussing in on Radio4 this morning, but I didn't hear much of it as I had to get out of the car.

I'm sorry Mac. I didn't read the article because I don't read newspapers much and I was in bed when the Radio 4 discussion took place. It's a pity you had to get out of the car though as you could have brought us up to date on the matter had you not had to.

What did the Royal Society write to the oil company which is of such interest to motorists?

I've never heard of a society writing before.

Thanks Mac. Iread it.

What on earth has all this got to do with the Royal Society. Since when have they become a propaganda outfit.

When members of the Society stop polluting themselves their remarks might be taken more seriously.

Quote:
The Royal Society
is the independent scientific academy of the UK and the Commonwealth dedicated to promoting excellence in science.

That's what they say."Independent" notice.

The global warming problem is a matter for Governments. Exxon are responsible to their shareholders and are only required to act within the law.

If the spirit of the RS's position comes to be fact I should imagine the FTSE will plummet and countries in the far east will soon leap ahead of us and RS members will cycle to work from their downsized houses.

Bob Dylan said-

"We're going all the way till the wheels fall off a burn."

That's about the size of it I'm afraid. There's more science in that than there is in the RS's meddling pronouncement.

Hey- you can always shoot the messenger.

I heard the interview...thought it very interesting. The guy who wrote the letter was really chivviing exxon, asking when they were going to come good on not funding dodgy-science public relations outfits. His opponent said its no business of the RS to tell exxon what to do...that all scientific debate should be open and bad science will be driven out by good science. I have sympathy for this latter view.

However the public doesnt know the difference between good and bad science. They just hear arguments going on and say "oh well as usual the experts cant agree, they're probably both wrong". Which is exactly the reaction exxon wish to achieve. Climate change is too big an issue to play games with.

That why I got rid of my car and spend all my leisure time either at home or somewhere I can walk to. It's a start.

We could always stop having kids and then it won't matter to anybody except those who don't stop having kids. The whole subject is shot through with phoney sentiment.

Pretty sneaky the way he used the word "groom" there. Not usually heard in this context.
That's evil, in my view. As if things weren't bad enough, without allusions to paedophilia.
Weaselly words, just what we expect from a politician.
Cant agree with you there Taggers. Grooming is exactly what these nutters do. Not for sex but something worse. Either way its child abuse imo.

Did you hear them shout Reid has no right to come to "a muslim area"? The British Home Secretary is not welcome in the Islamic Republic of Londonistan.

You have a radical who is attempting to condition the points of view of other British subjects who happen to be Muslim. Certainly, some of his hearers, most likely the young and callow, will heed his nonsense. That is not reason to assume, however, that all British Muslims are nutters. The biggest problem the Home Secretary will have with British Muslims will arise from police incompetence--they need to be very much more careful about not kicking in doors of those for whom they cannot unquestionably show a link with terrorists. That sort of thing simply aids the gobshites who think to tell a Home Secretary that he can or cannot enter any particular part of that sceptered realm.

Well he cannot without the permission of the judicial branch in writing and signed unless new legislation under various terrorism legislation has altered it.

The police can use the catch-all "breach of peace" stuff but they need to be able to justify it after the event to avoid a mess for themselves which can sometimes be conspired for. Someone said that our enemies don't need bombs anymore to paralyse London. Just a pile of internet chat leaked on purpose.

There are no easy answers except for those who insist on underestimating our enemies.

That was a stunt yesterday based on news media's addiction to drama.
