Now, having downed a cordial pint or two (of Abbot Ale) I am in a more melifluous mood. I have no idea what that word means, no doubt someone of a more literary bent will tell me, but it just seemed to appear...so the photo with the water was taken last week.

The depraved Roman elite used a thing called a vomitorium. It was to enable them to indulge in one of the seven deadly sins more than the natural urge would have allowed them to.

I suppose Viagra is similar but for another of the SD sins. I'm slothful but I don't do sleeping pills. I've got pride as well but I don't dress it with flashing lights.

I would prefer a pill for nutrition as well. What a waste of time eating is.

Define sex will you? I don't know whether I disagree or not unless I know what is meant.

How would I know? I need a traffic warden when I get more that half a mile from my sofa.

And some lane markers with arrows telling me which way to go so as not to be in the ****.

I love green lights though. They mean you can proceed into the future. Or at least I think they do. Assuming the next red is the future.

Free will and all that razz.

I read once that the average American city dwelling motorist spends 2.7569 years of his/her life stuck at a red light and only 22 weeks wanking.

I must say I found that somewhat disquieting.

Er, the vomitorium was not used for vomiting in.

Apparently it was a crowd-overspill device, a "crush hall".

Enlighten me. Are these books rude? Lawrence Durell, or the M de S?

For those who might be interested (not Spendy obviously) my bedside book at the moment is The Pickwick Papers.

I've edited my earlier response, McT, as it may give the plot away if Smorgs sees it.

No doubt she will give a review when she's finished, if she wants.

There's lots of <ahem> in there, though, if we're talking M de S.
