Mass. Gov. says state won't help protect Iranian

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2006/09/mass_gov_says_s.html

"There are people in this state who have suffered from terrorism, and taking even a dollar of their money to support a terrorist is unacceptable," Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Tuesday in announcing that he won't allow any state resources to be used to help protect Mohammed Khatami when the former Iranian president speaks at Harvard University in Boston on Sunday.

Romney, a potential candidate for the Republican Party's 2008 presidential nomination, also called Harvard's invitation to Khatami "a disgrace to the memory of all Americans who have lost their lives at the hands of extremists."

The Boston Police Department said it would assist the State Department in providing security.

Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., told the Boston Globe that even though he thinks Khatami should not have been invited to speak at Harvard, the state should still assist in security during his visit.

"It sets a very troublesome precedent to deny state protection," Lynch said in an e-mail to the newspaper. "He is here. While there may be no benefit to us from his visit, we should see that he leaves safely and as soon as possible."

Monday, Khatami told USA TODAY that U.S. forces should stay in Iraq until that country's government is ready to assert greater control. On his visit to the USA, he has been to Chicago and is also to give speeches in New York, Washington and Virginia.

Too bad the Porkey Mayor agreed to offer security at the request of the Feds.

Well, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had similar problems when Bush was there for the barbeque.

They've unfortunatley to pay about 15 million EUROs for the police and security, our federal government nothing.

Coming back to this topic: much noise about nothing: the State Department's bureau of diplomatic security is responsible for ensuring Khatami's safety. Such security is almost always provided in cooperation with local police, State Department officials said yesterday.
And Boston Police Department spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said: "We were asked by the State Department to assist in protecting a guest of the United States, and the Police Department plans to oblige".

This is an empty political move that has no real meaning being played by a man who really wants to be president. It is designed to appeal to a carefully calculated audience to generate a tag line.

Mitt Romney is the conservative equivalent of Hillary Clinton.

Why the fawning party faithful would so enthusiastically fall for the transparent stunts of either one of them is beyond me.

Why should the taxpayers of Mass, be burdened with the cost of supplying security for this scumbag who was INVITED by HARVARD to speak at THEIR SCHOOL.

Let HARVARD pay for his security. They certainly have taken MILLIONS in contributions of Muslim extremists, so let Harvard pay for their protection and leave my tax dollars alone.

This is a common sense decision by Romney and why people like E BROWN can not understand it. IT MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE!

Very Happy

Nothing but a moron posing and grandstanding for the gullible morons who will choose him as their candidate.

Since inmigration fizzled as an issue , the republicans have come back to "national security" to try and win back all those voters they keep losing to their "mission accomplished" in Iraq.

I've noticed this too, if it works yet again, I think we deserve what we keep getting.

Poor Mitt, he always wanted to be President and he won't get the chance. He's a loser just like his old man.

You look old and you surely look like someone whose aspirations are no higher than operating a dumptruck.

If we have to spell this out any further, you might need to have your IQ tested.

The best is yet to come

http://www.tompaine.com/articles/2006/09/13/there_is_no_war_on_terror.php

http://www.michaelmoore.com/

I can't wait to see all the bigots and terror-mongers, the liers, cheaters and plain morons like this wanker Romney get the first whiff of their own demise.

Watch them try and jump the fence then - it'll be like a beechers brook pile up. When they realise that the people with brains in their heads out-number those without and that the prolatariate are not going to swallow their cheap sales tricks any longer - they'll be falling all over themselves to prove they are human - and not accountable for their craven actions meanwhile.
But nothing is forgotten
Romney's attitude coming after the Syrians have just stuck their necks out to protect a US Embassy, (One member of the Syrian security forces was reportedly killed) makes him look simply childish.

I'm a nobody, but even I can see that should anything happen now to this visiting fella on Romney's patch - well....either way, I think Romney just shat his hopes of stardom and power down the crapper

The "Big Dig" and how he "handled" it, finished his future.

There's something wrong with a State, where the important issues are gay marriage and fluff sandwiches, while of lesser value, until a death occurs are all of the construction faults in the concrete of the "Big Dig".

Then if you are so interested in how old I look or what my aspirations are,I will be happy to provide you with my bio.
Personally,I am flattered that you care enough about me to be worried about me.

I can assure you though, that I am not old,and I dont drive a dump truck.

But I thank you for your concern.

Miller,
You are free to continue to believe whatever you want about my background.
I know, and the people that know me,know who I am and what my background is.
If you had ever bothered to ask,I would have explained my background to you.

But,since you have decided to make your own assumptions about me,I will leave you to your fantasies and just ignore you.

Have a nice day Smile
