And out of the remaining FOUR, four are American. (And Serena isn't even one of them!)

First time since Wimbledon '85 that American women have done that in a major. Shocked
(First time since '81 in the U.S. Open in particular.)

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be for Venus.

Congratulations to Sloane, though. She is quite the shot-maker, and it will be fun watching her take on the muguruzas of the world.

I read that Sloane's father was a running back for the Patriots in the early 90s, and vaguely remember cheering for him against the Giants in the last game of the 1990 season. The Pats were 1-14, and the Giants were 12-3. It was a close game, though, during the day, on the torn up grass of Foxboro Stadium. He had a lot of 5 or 6 yard runs for first downs.

@Kolyo,
Just now watching Federer, on lawn, in Stuttgart versus Zverev (Micha, the older).
A highly attractive match so far, Federer better, we're still in the beginning of the first set (3:3).

@Walter Hinteler,
It's impressive he's winning at all, after all the time he took off.

Google says his previous tournament was the Miami Masters.

Former tennis champion Boris Becker is claiming diplomatic immunity against an attempt to sue him.

The three-time Wimbledon winner claims his appointment as a diplomat by the Central African Republic (CAR) affords him protection from any legal claims.

Mr Becker was declared bankrupt in 2017 over money owed to private bank Arbuthnot Latham. He is now being pursued for "further assets".

The conflict-ridden CAR is one of the world's poorest countries.

It made Mr Becker a sport and culture attache to the EU in April 2018.

@vonny,
So Federer is the new No. 1 since yesterday already - today, he'll not only get some hundred more pointe, some hundred thousands additional Euros but a brand new Mercedes cabriolet as well. (I think)

Next, in Halle, on lawn as well, it will be more points (it's a 500).

@Walter Hinteler,
Defending champion Roger Federer defeated Matthew Ebden 7-6 (2), 7-5 to reach the semifinals of the grass-court in Halle today.

Federer, who won his 18th grass-court title in Stuttgart on Sunday, is just three match wins away from matching Jimmy Connors' all-time record of 174 victories on grass.

Federer extended his grass-court winning streak to 19 including the Stuttgart title and last year's titles in Halle and Wimbledon. He is bidding for a record-extending 10th trophy in Halle.

@Walter Hinteler,
Perhaps a bit tired, certainly not in his best form, but good enough to reach the final tomorrow
