@Walter Hinteler,
Nadal pulled out of the Gerry Weber Open, he said today, to rest ahead of Wimbledon. (Federer is already there.)

@Walter Hinteler,
Sorry to hear that. That has to be a great letdown.

Still reeling from that women's final yesterday. What a tremendous display from Serena! I've also increased my respect for Sharapova. Williams beat on her for over an hour and a half and she never quit, hit some great balls, had some great comebacks. I think she is clearly the number 2 right now (although her ranking will fall to three next week) but there is a huge amount of daylight between her and Serena. At 31, Serena holds three of four slams.

@engineer,
It had been his doctor's advice ... wondering how he will go on now (2:3 momentarily) ...

@Walter Hinteler,
Quite a lot and disturbing action as well - I'm quite happy that those "protesters" don't get the attraction they want to get.

@Walter Hinteler,

Quote:
The French Open final was interrupted briefly while a fan stormed the court with a flare.

The spectator ran down the Stade Roland Garros stairs, onto the court and toward Rafael Nadal
before security dragged him off and tackled him over a fence. The shirtless fan was wearing a
mask and appeared to be carrying a flare. Nadal fled from the fan and appeared to be shaken up,
faulting after the incident.

He quickly recovered, though, taking the second set from David Ferrer 6-2. Prior to the situation,
there was a loud anti-gay marriage protest in the stands.

I think Federer will be a force at Wimbledon and maybe the US Open, but he hasn't been playing a lot of tournaments (he passed on Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid) and he is in danger of falling out of the top four. If that happens, he will potentially have to play a top player in the quarters.

I'm pretty sure Nadal is going to drop from 4th to 5th after a disappointing French Open.

(He failed to improve on last year's result and thus picks up no additional ranking points. )

Meanwhile, the guy who was 5th in the rankings, David Ferrer, will gain 480 points (if my math is right) and will overtake Nadal for 4th.

@Kolyo,
He was fifth a few weeks ago and everyone was concerned he was going to have to play a top four player in the quarters, but he won a couple of tournaments and Murray dropped out of the French. Not good if Nadal is still fifth for Wimbledon.

@engineer,
As a junior, Federer had teamed with Olivier Rochus and won the Wimbledon boys' doubles in 1998.
Today he lost with Haas against Melzer/Petzschner 6:7, 4:6.

@Walter Hinteler,
I've seen him play doubles in exhibitions but I can't recall him ever playing in a tournament where he was also playing singles, so I've learned something today.

@Walter Hinteler,
It has been a great day:
-we've seen some really very goof semi-finals (included one semi-final in the doubles)
- Mrs Walter got an autograph by Federer, on her seat cushion. (Wich was bad for me: she didn't want to use it, and thus I had to give her mine).

Here's the autograph ...

... and as a gimmick, Roger Federer "naked" for the girls here
