He was getting paid for the status quo. If we'd have paid him more than his buddy Saddam was paying him, he would've agreed with Bush and Blair.

You should have done that. It's not like the US had any scruples offering other countries like Turkey $6 billion in grants and up to $20 billion in loan guarantees (in exchange for Ankara's support of the invasion of Iraq, of course)...

Then again, I seem to remember that Turkey declined. Politely.

Sadly, I don't find it surprising that you would equate the two.

Nimh-- You must realize if you lope in here, deposit laudatory remarks about Chirac and leave, these things are going to happen.

Maybe now my local diner will remove the sign that says "Freedom Fries with every American Burger" and "Freedom Toast comes with Real American Syrup" (I think they associate the word "maple" those Socialists up in Canada) .

On a serious note, Chirac is mired in past corruption scandals, but you didnt need to be corrupt to be against the war -- and I dont think its why Chirac was against it either. Not the primary reason, anyway.

(And this "likely" stuff sounds a bit too much like "Bush likely gets off on hitting midget ho's" to me - like, as long as you stick "likely" in there you dont have to worry about shreds of evidence?)

Face it. Sometimes, sly old corrupt foxes can foresee things that boneheaded arrogant ideologists cant. Credit to Chirac to have shown common sense on this count, when Bush and Blair were being high smoking their remake-the-world power trip.

I would guess my point is Chirac doesn't have the credibility to school anyone on anything.

If he hadn't been injected into your finger-wagging, I wouldn't have posted.
