Yep, I think I might've dodged a bullet - I hear Polk is an armpit of a base, but things could be worse.
A shooting war--especially a sniping, shooting war--confers perspective.
It really does - when younger soldiers complain, I find that no matter what the present circumstance, it seems to square their shoulders and clear their eyes a little when I mention "It could be worse - you could be getting shot at".

Unfortunately some of the young, unfinished ones think that a Combat Zone is Real Life and and an automatic passport to he-manhood.
