Oh crap! I am soooo sick of politicians who use serious, important events to gain political strength.

I'll bet the cuckoos over at al Quaida are rolling around, and laughing their heads off.

Updated: 2 hours, 58 minutes ago

LONDON - NBC News has learned that U.S. and British authorities had a significant disagreement over when to move in on the suspects in the alleged plot to bring down trans-Atlantic airliners bound for the United States.

A senior British official knowledgeable about the case said British police were planning to continue to run surveillance for at least another week to try to obtain more evidence, while American officials pressured them to arrest the suspects sooner.

A telling item from Suskind's latest book involves a meeting of the top CIA team working on Osama and al Quaeda (they'd worked together for about five years with Tenent) just prior to the last election when Osama made and released his video. Their conclusion was that Osama wanted the Bush administration to remain in power.

Interesting. Did Susskind give a rationale for their conclusion? I can think of a few, but I am interested in what they perceived.

The surmises were that Bush was predictable and also (and surely the really important thing here) that the "eye to eye" Bush vs Osama/west vs east/christian vs muslim etc framework works in favor of both men as regards popularity and the forwarding of a set of ideas which serves either man's political ends.
