It seems to me that our governments are run by lobbyists. It is getting more difficult for politicians to stay honest. It takes a strong person to refuse tempting offers; only a few can stay clean.

Congressmen took free trips worth $50m

.
Members of the US Congress and their aides took free trips worth nearly $50m paid for by corporations, trade associations and other private groups between January 2000 and June 2005, according to a study published yesterday.
.
Some of the 23,000 trips featured hotel rooms costing $500 a night, $25,000 corporate jet rides and visits to popular spots such as Paris, Hawaii and Colorado ski resorts, said the research,...............
.
The lobbyist Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to fraud charges in January and admitted that he had showered golf trips, sports tickets and other gifts on members of Congress in return for actions that would help his clients.

Jespah:

Apparently yes. And a couple of decades ago it was business as usual. In fact, the Congressmen got the government to pick up the tab.

When they cracked down on that, apparently lobbyists rushed in to pay for these trips, so the public wasn't paying for them. However, somewhere along the way, they made the lobbyists paying for them illegal. So that is why we have the scandals we have today.

Here is a good example of total corruption in government.

........................
Even as you read this, G. W. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods.

You're right. I went there and that rense site is garish. Let's drop it.

Apart from that the corruption continues.
