Most Popular Names for Babies in 2002

Reply Sun 11 May, 2003 03:41 am
I read last night that in the US, the 2 most popular names for babies in 2002 were Emily for girls and Jacob for boys. While the name, Emily doesn't surprise me, the name, Jacob for boys surely does. I always thought of the name, Jacob as being rather biblical. Are we as Americans becoming more religious?

Certain biblical names have always been popular. Names seem to cycle over the years. There seems to be an abundance of biblical names lately. Check this out:

Also, it's often shortened to Jake, which is just a twist on the John-Jack stalwarts.

Zachary/ Zach is another one I've seen a LOT of. (Has a similar feel to me -- old-fashioned kinda weird full name, "Jack"-type diminutive.)

I've know some Jakes. Never heard them called Jacob, however.

Maybe you have to be around when they are in trouble with their moms. Very Happy
