Frankly, I'd much prefer to go to Australia. Lots of A2Kers down under.

During the Chicago meet there was already talk of Barcelona in 2007. Does anyone know where that originated?

I heard it repeated several times by ci. No idea where ci got it.

Barcelona was discussed all the time, even instead of London last year. (It had been one of the original destinations Diane and dys actually wanted go last year.)

It started more than a year before that already, Francis :wink:

Thank you, Francis. Did Shazzer move to Barcelona? Is he/she aware of this discussion?

I just wanted to stop in and say a big 'thank you' to everyone that's joined in this discussion so far. Still not sure where I'll end up, :wink: but I've got some great ideas for places to start. Barcelona is looking pretty good at the moment. I have a feeling I'll be spending a few months there at the very least.

I too heard ci mention it many times in Chicago, Thomas. He talks about it more here

Yes, joefromchicago, you can conclude however you'd like to,
Barcelona still is the favorite destination so far Wink

I still think, we should start talking about the time frame, as this might
encourage/eliminate a few people. For instance, if the meeting were to
take place in April or May 2007, I would have to pass, no matter what
the destination.

I would be interested in attending if it falls in April or May of 2007.

Hmm, I think, too, that Augsburg/Munich is very nice about that time ... ... ... :wink:

Well, re closing of the poll, 21 days is June 6th, I think - no calendar at hand and posting in a hurry.

Re the poll, there was what I now see as a too-short attempt at discussion of how to word the poll in the thread titled something like A2K meeting Europe 2007 - starter thread. Think it's in Travel and Culture, under the Europe forum.

On Rome, it is my favorite city. I've been there about a total of a two months time and know it fairly well, for a visitor, but a) am not local, b)may not be making it to the meeting, c) despite 7 classes in italian, don't speak the language in other than a stumbling way, and getting worse at it as the time passes since I took all those classes.

However, Raphillon of a2k lives close to the city and has expressed interest in the past in meeting a2kers, and has met Pantalones.
Lots of other a2kers have been to the city, including Kicky and CI and probably dozens of others. LoisLane17, who hasn't posted lately but I am sometimes in touch with by email, has been to Rome many times. I bet Ul knows the city. Wouldn't be surprised if Francis knows the city well.

One qualm I have about Rome - and understand that if I get to the meeting that I will also go to Rome no matter where the meeting(s) is held - is that if it is in June the city will getting up to high tourist numbers. I've been there in March, April, and October, with March being on the cold side but relatively tourist free.

As to binding a meeting time and place, the matter of people actually showing up to meetings when they have said they will has always been a well-intended effort, but by the nature of things, not possible to assure.

I can easily see there being two meetings myself, with two sets of dates...
that could be taken as divisive, but I see it as maybe being additive.

Thought later today, after I was far away from a computer, that I'd forgotten, Fbaezer and Anon know Rome too.

The idea that Francis plans/organises a meeting a Paris sounds convincing, though ...

That would be wonderful, if Francis would be willing.
And there may be a meeting in Rome (I remember one more person who I've gathered from conversations knows the city - Lightwizard).
And Thomas has said he is willing to plan a group get together in Munich.
In the meantime, a lot of people are up for Barcelona and Vienna as immediate choices.

Re Barcelona and Vienna -
It is my sense that some may go to whichever city in the poll the majority choose and the planning develops on;

some may go to one or the other only, and folks may follow up on that with a second meeting;

some may go to either based on what dates develop for each place, if there is planning for both;

some are uncomfortable with either because someone local isn't involved in the planning (although we have a local in Vienna, who I don't think has seen this thread yet, and Walter and Dag and Nimh count for pretty local - and Francis knows Barcelona).

This might be a good time to find out which dates would work for the most people.

October in Barcelona is beautiful and relatively free of the masses of tourists seen while school is out. That said, many of you might have a problem with that precisely because you have children in school.

For Spain, being a warm country, I would vote for a cooler month; April, May or October, but Dys and I are retired so we have more options open to us.

How about the rest?

As mentioned already, I will go to Europe next June.

osso, why complicate things with Rome? Neither Anon or fbaezer said
anything of going to Rome, or Europe for that matter. Plus no one voted
for Rome.
