HARTFORD, Conn. - U.S. military troops with severe psychological problems have been sent to Iraq or kept in combat, even when superiors have been aware of signs of mental illness, a newspaper reported for Sunday editions.

The Hartford Courant, citing records obtained under the federal Freedom of Information Act and more than 100 interviews of families and military personnel, reported numerous cases in which the military failed to follow its own regulations in screening, treating and evacuating mentally unfit troops from Iraq.

There aren't too many alternatives to sending some of them back, are there? What're we supposed to do? Simply pull out? Reinstate the draft? It's a sad situation, but what're we supposed to do?

From 1985 to 1990 the department of commerce approved the sale of $1.5 Billion worth of duel use technologies, from chemical and biological components to computers and equipment for conventional and nuclear weapons systems. In the same period $308 million worth of aircraft, helicoptors and associated parts were also transferred to Irag.

"The story, of course, is of over just how 350 tons of incredibly powerful explosive that "disappeared" from a facility kept under close watch by the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, the agency headed by Mohammed El-Baradei, and one of the agencies tossed out of Iraq so Dubya could show the world that his was bigger than Papa Bush's). The IAEA did not remove the weapons grade explosives because, although they are really nasty and can be used as the triggering mechanism in atomic bombs, they also have useful and legitimate civilian applications in excavations for dams and bridges and other large problems. So... they were kept under close watch by the IAEA.

Until, of course, the United States military moved in, and threw out the inspectors, and apparently, not only left a facility at al Qa Qaa, Iraq (I think that's the name) unguarded, but then suppressed all information about having left it unguarded, apparently under pain of death for any American or Iraqi who dared talk about it. Result: over 350 tons of the nastiest conventional explosives on Earth went right into the hands of terrorists, and, as alluded to by Senator Kerry in the debates, are being used for car bombs and other devices used to kill our soldiers and the nascent Iraqi security force, as well as lotsa civilians. Got it? (We won't even talk about the possibility of even nastier weapons at these facilities also having disappeared... into the hands of terrorists.)"

(I wonder how many tons are left?)

The backstory is that the suicidal American troops are being formed into a suicide brigade. After minimal training each will be fitted with an explosive vest and assigned a target. Before each operation the volunteers will have a wonderful KFC or McD meal of their choice and be recorded on DVD. Each hero is assured of a place in Heaven with a minimum of six movie starlets for each of the Heathen killed. Specially targeted by the Pentagon, and with Secretary Rumsfeld's personal approval, will be pre-teen girls of poor families. Each operative will have their photograph included in a Hall of Fame that includes each of the CIA's agents aboard the highjacked aircraft on 9/11. Families of the volunteers will all recieve $20 gift certificates from Haliburton. The number of Volunteers is said to be growing as the secret Brigade takes shape.

BTW, anyone who isn't stressed out by combat IS certifiable and should be excused from service. Being stressed out by combat is good evidence that the soldier is sane enough to serve. Catch-22 is alive and well, as it always has been.
