I had not been having those 10 min for every 4 worked hours company paid breaks for several months, because company management failed to inform me about them. They made access to their human resources manager difficult (email doesnt work, phone is message machine, she is not in her office). What can I do to get a compansation for that unused time?
I had 2 years worth of no lunch breaks til I broke down in tears coz I felt like a prosoner for 9 hours a day.
I think all you can do is explain to superiors the situation, tell them you wernt informed and go from there, see what they say.Maybe you can work out a way were you can leave a bit earlier on certain days.
Thank you for your answer. It's a copy shop, so pay is about $10/hr. The top management seems ok (installed new lights, new ventilation system), but my supervisor wanted to make himself look good, I guess, so he decided to increase our productivity using OUR break time, COMPANY PAID one. I am so angry at him. And top management too I guess, but they dont do anything about it. I love my job, even if its a simple temporary copy shop job (I plan to work in IT and am studying for it). Everything seems to be perfect except this case. I started to ask around about 10 min breaks and my supervisor came to me today (after about 6 months past due, lol) and told me that yeah, we have those 10 min breaks. I reminded him that he didn't tell me about them before, but he ignored it and walked away. I'll be trying to contact HR. Even if they decline my compensation, I will stay working there. It feels good when you see the company managers and you can say with your eyes "You owe me $400, you little thief"!"
Sorry I cant really offer solid help, these are just my thoughts.
He shouldnt have walked away from you but its a clear admission that he knows he is in the wrong which in a way is a good start.
I havnt had my work pension paid for 2 months and when I asked my superiors about it they just said 'yeah it hasnt been paid' not 'sorry about that, itl be sorted this week'.
This needs to be persude as thats alot of money.I reckon they would prefer to agree to give you time off rather than give you the money.
Dont let it drop and make sure you get an answer from them.
Thank you. I am 26. I initially wanted to convert this time to PTO, but my accout manager told me that it was a legal question, so to ask our HR Manager for a monetary compensation, since PTO was less probable. She mentioned that other employees sued the company about unpaid lunch time and were awarded a lot of money. I probably won't sue the company, because I like working there, but it's possible that HR resolve this. If they won't award my anything, I'll just consider them thieves and enjoy looking at them, while they feel humiliated that they are so unethincal.
Dont let them undermine you coz yuor young. They wouldnt ignore somebody in their 40's.
Make sure you ask questions and keep badgering them.
Good luck.
