After decades of upgrades to a fleet of notoriously cramped Sikorsky VH-3 Sea Kings, the White House has tasked Lockheed Martin with a dramatic, $6.1-billion makeover of Marine One, the presidential helicopter, starting this summer.

I wonder how many schools could be built for that $6.1 BILLION.
I wonder how hard it would be for someone to obtain a FIM-92 Stinger and decapitate the US government by shooting Marine 1 or Air Force 1 out of the sky?

But if we built the schools, we wouldn't have anyone to man the helicopter....
It does seem like alot of money.
I just wonder if they same samrt-a$$ bushwackers said the same when Clinton re-designed Air Force One?
It is a $110 million dollar heliocopter - with $5,890,000,000 worth of upgrades.
I'm thinking it comes with a stripper factory and a beer volcano.
It won't even be ready until Bush leaves office. (Phased in between 2009-2014.)
At which time everything will already be obsolete.
Which makes it all sound a little porky to me.
How far does the president actually travel by heliocopter? From the White House to the airport? I really don't know.

No i didn't ?
Don't scalp me, please, don't scalp me.
Then apparently you do not feel a President of the US needs to be protected as well as have the ability to travel in the most effective way possible.
Does the Secret Service cost too much? Is Air Force 1 too expensive?
Or is it just THIS President?
Let's buy 30 of the stock model, and have the others fly with the Pres as decoys.

The stripper factory and beer volcano would only be installed if Hillary becomes president that way she can keep Bill entertained while she handles "real" business.
Your right it wouldn't be ready until he leaves office which means he is thinking of other presidents comforts and not his own.

So instead of having the lastest and greatest protection for the President of the US we can risk the lives of at least 2 highely trained pilots in the helicopter instead a cabin full of people because you want to be cheap. Nice way to think about the lives of those pilots.
