Anyone who "needs" religion to be hopeful or aware of the significance of human life is seriously misguided, IMO. Religious teachings, on whatever side, should be used as a scalpel to the mind, not a sledgehammer.

Did someone other than yourself bring up the issue of "needing religion"?

The statement seemed to me to be implicit in your question [Can you be hopeful about the significance of human life, without having a religion?], or at the very least, your questions in general seem to be an attempt to drive this thread into a conclusion you have already determined, which makes proper debate impossible. Confused
