Yep... "fair and balanced" indeed. What a f*cking joke that "news" channel has become.

Quote:
Vice President Cheney threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener of the Washington Nationals game today. The crowd was was less than thrilled to have him there, loudly booing over the Fox News reporter. (Note: Fox producers muted the crowd audio halfway through before letting viewers "listen in" after the pitch.)

Might not be the channel for you guys to watch then. Perhaps you are familiar with the workings of the remote control?

Ok. So you either don't get it, or posting an off topic comment on purpose. Cool. So long as we're clear.

I'm starting to enjoy your posts. Damn shame your serious, though.

I get it JaO. Liberals feel that Fox news is not actually "fair and balanced" as their motto says.

Big news there. Rolling Eyes

My question then: Why watch it?

I think you might be missing the point. Clearly, it's a major news outlet. As such, there are certain standards that it should uphold.

Time and again, it has been demonstrated that they have slanted their stories, or outright manipulated the public. Offhand, "I remember them changing a quote from Hillary Clinton to say "homicide bomber" as oposed to "suicide bomber", which she actually said. (sorry if it's a sloppy link, just did a quick search).

There are plenty more instances of this. The big problem here is that it just fosters serious problems with political debate. When the actual news outlet you use literally changes the news itself, or constantly downplays/omits news contrary to its "game plan," people base their arguments and opinions on mis-information, and it makes it near impossible to have a civil, fact based conversation on important matters.

Everyone winds up getting screwed. Anyway, regardless of any "liberal media" claims anyone may make, you have to admit, FOX news holds top honors when it comes to distorting their stories. Quite shameful, actually.

Just another reason why you, and people that think the same should stop watching it. Perhaps if their ratings took a hit they would change.

Come on man... FOX is a major news outlet on basic television. Certainly their ratings will take a hit if people don't watch it. But that's like saying "if we treated everyone nice, there wouldn't be problems in this world." Makes sense in theory, but in reality, it's just not gonna happen.

There are many news outlets I don't watch since I can't watch them all. I don't catch much TV news since I like my news in more detail than TV can generally spend. Still, I expect a certain level of responsibility from people who call their product news. It's not the same standard you apply to those writing books. If a left or right wing rant comes out at the local bookstore, it is pretty clear what it is. Subtle distortion of the news seems a lot more serious to me.

Conservatives and standards? Now there's an oxymoron if ever I've heard one!

My point exactly. Time and again FOX news has demonstrated they are not only capable, but willing to distort the stories they report on. Sometimes in very serious ways.

This shouldn't even be a point of contention. Regardless of your political affiliation, you should feel this way.
