Anybody finding any? Post your reports here so those interested can track them as they move northward. I'm going out looking today, but I suspect it is still too early here.

No morel hunters here this AM? I'm surprised. I bet Cav would be out there foraging. Maybe he tagged along with me today.

Anyway, I found no morels on my hour long hunt. The woods look about right but it is really wet out there. I did find LOTS of ramps (wild green onions). Dug a few up with my fingers before I'd had enough of that. Next time I'll take a trowel.

Hey, lots of dots in Ohio.

I used to do this in MN, haven't here yet. May have to investigate.

They should be popping up around here. We just had a good soaking rain and it's really warm.

Ive found a few, but I wasnt really out hunting. I find the best places are in old apple orchards and edges of oak forests. However, the Amish farm very close to fields edges and usually dont leave a tree row for long.

Only hillbillies eat ramps around here. We get nice mild tatsing spring onions and ramps are a might tangy.

Really good morel hunters can load up while they sprint. Great with a steak.

What I guessed were ramps were just wild spring onions. They are everywhere.

No 'shrooms though. Not yet. I think this spot I'm living near is perfect - a pond, park, and old apple orchard, with lots of hardwood forest tossed in. This weekend could be it!

dont act like youre looking for morels. Dont carry paraphanalia that might give you away. Serious morel hunters have these maps with locations plotted on topo sheets.

May the morel god smile his slimy countenace upon you and bestow great quantities of those tasty muthas.

I know the type. Does packing heat give you away as a morel hunter? Smile Typically I just take a spawn bag, a GPS, and a knife.

There isn't enough public land nearby to bother with a topo map. If I were to go north a couple hours then yes, but not here. I'm just looking in a small area.

We've got plenty of areas burned by forest fires, but it'll be July before the morels show up.

I ain't never ate a store-bought morel.

Crush up some soda crackers, dredge the morels, and fry 'em in bacon fat . . . mmmmm-mmmmmm-good ! ! !

I can't tell a Morel apart from a fly agaric - besides, there is no country
living around here. We're at the coast for crying out loud.

I paid way too much, but the soup was darn good. Even the kid ate
two cups of it.

That is the most appalling confession of fungal incompetence i've ever seen . . . don't you ever dare attempt to pick your own mushrooms in the woods . . .

I don't! I know my limitations, Setanta.

I once had an American friend visit Germany with me,
and he couldn't get over the fact that the most expensive
restaurant menue on the item was mushrooms (chanterelle)

Walked an old apple orchard at lunch. Still nothing. Reports from all around me but I couldn't find them with an easy button.
