I don't think there is a person among us who has not seen similar photos and who are unaware of such carnage so I'm not sure I understand what you're driving at.

However, I had not seen this image before and I found it very striking....

I agree boom....I don't see where these pictures are being hidden.

War is hell indeed, and this is not the only one where people have received horrible injuries.

Seems to me this is a case where someone jumps in and says "These are the pictures they don't want you to see" and you're just supposed to take that as truth.

Very irritating.

In earlier wars most of those people pictured would have died and there wouldn't be pictures at all.

The pictures they don't want you to see is the soldiers "coming home" in coffins.

I'm sure a lot of people haven't seen pictures like this, or at least haven't seen much of them. I know for sure that I haven't seen anything like this in any of the major newspapers. The mainstream media in the U.S. would never dare show pictures like this.

Why?

I think if any mainstream media dared show these pictures, the current administration would accuse them of gratuitous glorifying of bloodshed and violence, and would probably be accused of "giving aid and comfort to the enemy."

Or maybe the major news outlets think it would be tasteless. Either way, I don't think seeing pictures like this does any harm, and in some cases, I think it might actually do some good to see this stuff.

Do you really believe that Bush is the only responsible for the whole situation? Not the lobbies who are moving your goverment? I can't see a difference if Bush falls, but you need a total political change.

Inconvenient to the "Pictures they don't want you to see" meme is that most of the photos offered in fact were published by major newspapers, periodicals, and/or wire services, and on that website are properly attributed, per copyright law. Some may wish not to see such images, but they are not hidden, and some - for instance those responsible for that website and those who feel it serves any purpose to promote such - might wish to see such images far more sensationally exploited than typically they are, but common decency precludes that.

Here are some public domain pics - nothing new, in the pics I present or in the pics that website presents; war is not pleasant.

Not pleasant at all. Never has been, never will be.

Excellent post, timberlandko.

I didn't even notice the photo credits as I went through the site but you are right.

Another thing...

I have a book that chronicles the Pulitzer Prize winning photographs (I'm a bit of a photo nut) and many many many of the photos are from war.

There are so many images that just stop your heart to see.

Here's a good start: http://www.newseum.org/pulitzer/

But sometimes it is the "also rans" that really break your heart.

Thanks, boomer. Tell ya what - been-there-done-that is a bunch more heartbreaking than any book or photo, prize winner or not. Many folks have attended freinds funerals. Some folks have picked bits and pieces of freinds from their fatigues and gone on with getting the job done then attended freinds funerals.

My brother says the worst thing is knocking on someone's door to tell somebody that someone they love won't be coming home.
