FEATURED: Canadian Politics

Any thoughts on the new government? I just saw the throne speech by Michelle Jean and it was rather interesting. I figure this could be a thread that is ongoing with many new topics being introduced as time goes on. It's hard to get a topic in the big forum and get noticed with all of the U.S. topics overshadowing all the little Canuck ones. Kinda reflects real life don't it. Seriously, any conversation or topics related will be appreciated and debated.

Harper is up the old fecal creek the first time he has to rely on the Bloc, and they turn around and present him the political bill. Won't happen very soon, though.

There is no way that we will see a government change in less than two years.

It's not likely to happen, though. None of those parties want to be branded the spoilers who caused another election too soon.

EDIT: Even the NDP was cordial about the throne speech.

I voted Liberal in that last election, not because I thought they were ace, but because they were the one party that did not cause that totally unnecessary election. I believe that I'm like most Canadians -- preferring politics to break into my awareness only every 4 years. Any more frequent than that makes me cranky.

My vote fluctuates among the parties, depending on whim for the most part Embarrassed , but it never goes to the Conservatives. On the other hand, I'm willing to let Harper go for a bit, as long as he doesn't try to implement a right-wing agenda, just to avoid another election.

(But he's already testing the neocon waters, no? To overturn the decriminalization of marijuana?)

The CBC is all throne speech, all the time, right now. They've got child care down right now, and are attempting to break its little arm . . .

They've been going after illegal immigrants from Portugal and South America with an absolute vengeance lately. Evil or Very Mad

The child care issue is making me spit.

I want him gone, and I may even get political to do it.

after the new government falls, what next, when do you think we will see another majority parliment, or when will the bitter feelings among the parties mellow to allow them to work together effectively

The Liberals need to mend the Sheila Copps rift - try to turn into a sensible party again.

I'm curious to see what Jack Layton can come up with.

I'll look at the Conservatives again once they get rid of Harper.

I'll take getting rid of Harper as a sign they might be looking in the right direction.

<still not sure I could vote for them, but I won't say never ever>

Didja hear that King Ralph has relinquished his throne here in Alberta?
I hear the impotent (politically speaking, of course) Preston Manning is thinking about running.
You could run a monkey in Alberta and so long as they're conservative, they'll win.

....Manning may have a legitimate shot, as far as monkeys go.

Laughing

I heard yesterday that Ralphie is stepping down, and I'm stunned. How long has he been premier? Seems like forever.
