I got "Peter, Paul and Mommy," a CD version of my favorite album when I was a kid, by Peter, Paul and Mary, for sozlet (age 5) at the library recently.

It is a great one -- Puff the Magic Dragon, I'm Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor, The Marvellous Toy, and on -- and she absolutely adores it. She's been listening to it every day, several times a day (as I did, when I was a kid), and she is very sad about the idea of taking it back to the library. We could just keep checking it out, but it's such a great one that I think I'll buy it.

It's at Amazon for $13.98, and there's free shipping if the order is over $25, and I've been wanting to have more CDs for her in our permanent collection anyway, so would like to get at least one more. Have looked around a bit, nothing grabs me.

What are your recommendations?

Laurie Berkner -- our current favorite is Under a Shady Tree. The kids love her, and I like her a lot too.

We also have a cd of Burl Ives that my sister bought for the kids. It's a cd version of an album we used to listen to as kids. He's folky and he has a nice voice. Very singable songs, like Berkner.

I used to sing Froggie went a'courtin' all the time as a kid.

This might work: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001DO5/qid=1142969916/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/002-4486788-6191254?s=music&v=glance&n=5174

I was looking for Tom Glazer's Space Songs and Amazon doesn't sell it (apparently it is rare), so will Pete Seeger do?

Have you heard of Charlotte Diamond? Her album "10 Carrot Diamond" is terrific. We bought it in the mid to late 80s, but I can still remember the words to some of the songs, like "Four Hugs a Day", "Looking for Dracula" ...

Oh there's also Christine Lavin, but she might be a lil too sophisticated.

I really like the new Curious George soundtrack. It's very mellow though; more for relaxation time. Don't know if Sozlet would like it. They are the sort of songs that are easy to play on guitar, if you're into that.

Fred Penner! He has a tonne of albums out. I love sandwiches...... Razz

I noticed that Burl Ives was in the "People who bought this bought ____" list at Amazon, FreeDuck. Sozlet absolutely loves his version of "Rudolph," so I bet she'd be interested.

I haven't heard of any of the rest of these, they all look great, thanks so much! The Family Music Party one looks especially promising. Keep 'em coming, though, this is an ongoing project of mine -- sozlet loves music, and I want to make sure she has a steady diet of music, but unless I heard it when I was a kid (as with the P,P & M one), I'm kind of lost.

Little White Duck is the Burl Ives cd that we have and I recommend it. Laurie Berkner you've probably seen on Nick Jr. before. She's very easy on the grown-up ears, as is Burl, and the kids never tire of either of them. You can't really lose.
