Number of electoral votes based on the latest polls for each state:

* Barack Obama - 309
* John McCain - 229

Translated, it means Obama has 57% to McCain's 43%. If that's head-to-head, we'll accept it as a given. Obama already won! LOL

ci, I detect you are throwing your hat into the ring with Obama. You went through a period of expressing great skepticism, even criticism of Obama, but I guess the die is cast, you are now an Obamaite?

Here I thought Okie's ignorance bordering on overt racism was going to be the height of stupidity today; then comes the waterboy with a submission that could win him the idiot of the month award. Those are the men and women defending your country you half-witted bigot. Try to show a little respect.

Occom Bill, I used to think you were halfway reasonable, but frankly I am tired of your racial innuendos and references.

An apology is in order from you, but somehow I will not expect it.

Multiple apologies are in order, but none will come...

Heres an interesting opinion piece by Willie Brown, the former mayor of SF and the former Speaker of the Ca State Assembly, and a die hard liberal...

Quote:
From New York to San Francisco, I've been asked over and over: Given the state of the country, how could Barack Obama and John McCain be so close in the polls?

The answer - at this point it's not about Obama vs. McCain. It's about Obama vs. Obama.

Upscale, white "Sex and the City" women are still livid over how they perceive the Obama people treated Hillary Rodham Clinton during the Democratic primaries.

He has got a major, major problem there, and they feel he has done nothing to address it.

I'm not saying women will vote for McCain - he's just a look-over at best - but they will be missing in action this November unless something changes.

Back in New York, I've picked up some real hesitation about Obama among Jewish Democrats as well.

Plus, Obama is now having to deal with the "true believers" upset about his moving to the middle on Iraq, gun control, the death penalty and everything else that happens when a candidate suddenly gets more "educated" on the issues.

It's Obama vs. Obama - and it's still a wide-open race among undecideds.

He raises some interesting points about the Obama campaign.

Oh!! A devilishly witty aside - slyly referencing Obama's history, counterposed in a way that suggests his inexperience!

How DOES he come up with these creative gems?

But then, I guess I would be reduced to making slimeball snide comments too, if I were a little minded man paralyzed with fear at the spectre of the first black president.

This is what started all of this. Snood basically calls someone "little minded" and "paralyzed with the fear at the spectre of the first black president."

I reject that, as everyone should in the most forceful and definite language. I responded to snood and told him that he was making the same old mistake, going down the wrong road, making the race a referendum on race. And of course snood started a thread titled "Fear of a Black President."

Obama's foundation is not solid and it can't be repaired.
It's just a matter of time for his inevitable fall from grace.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but not a fair comparison at all, McGentrix. I reject that idea as well. The gay and transexual crowd loves to try to make their plight the same as racial equality, which I think should be an insult to any person of any color.

Well, not really. I mean, it is a head-to-head matchup; but it's not neck-and-neck by any means.

http://www.pollster.com/08USPresGEMvOand3sr600.png

The state polling numbers look great for Obama, even better then the national numbers. My guess is that this is going to be a pretty tough week for McCain; the Maliki endorsement of Obama's position, Obama's good PR on this trip he's taking, McCain's mixing up of Afghanistan and Iraq...

If McCain can't turn the trend around, he is going to lose 30+ states.

As you can see - the race is neck and neck.

Monday, July 21
General Election:
McCain vs. Obama
Rasmussen Tracking
Obama 46, McCain 45
Obama +1.0

I don't really rely on the Ras tracking poll to tell me the status of the race; it's balanced by party ID, instead of letting respondents self-select; it will ALWAYS be closer then other polls due to the methodology.

That being said, it doesn't matter; Obama is winning in tons of states.

H20Man, do you get that the Pollster graph shows the results of a variety of polls, rather than just conducting their own poll? Rasmussen is on there, as well as CNN, FOX, etc., etc. Beneath the graph Cyclopticorn showed, it lists the various polls included:

Code: Pollster Dates N/Pop McCain Obama Barr Nader Other Undecided Not Voting
ABC/Post 7/10-13/08 971 RV 39 49 2 5 3 2 1

Formatting sucks, sorry, but it gives you an idea of the pollsters represented. You can see the original (with decent formatting) here:
