yes indeed, It is quite fascinating to see that Obama had a band precede a campaign speech. Probably never happened before in america; might be a violation of campaign rules unless the media exposes the bass guitar player as a communist/terrorist and the drummer as an atheist. Do you think, Mysteryman, there might have been drugs in use as Obama was speaking?

I wasnt there, so I dont know if there were drugs there or not.
And if there were, so what?

Only if you can provide statements from Obama that support your claim.
Till you do, I will let you make a fool out of yourself trying to run with it.

Where does this "media didn't report that the Decemberists played" thing come from in the first place?

Heh, when I was doing the Google search to point out all the mentions (I read several accounts from several sources at the time, all of which mentioned the Decemberists), I found this:

Quote:
Barack Obama Rides the Coattails of Mildly Popular Indie Band

http://blog.indecision2008.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/barackobam-portland1.jpg

So, remember that crowd of 75,000 people who gathered together in Portland, Oregon over the weekend to hear Barack Obama speak?

Well, now it looks like most of those people were probably there to see The Decemberists -- that incredibly famous band that your poetry-writing nephew listens to -- who opened for the little-known senator from Illinois.

And the rest were there to hail godless allegiance to the Soviet Union, which will rise again from the ashes of glasnost.

That explains so much about last night's primaries. Those people in Orgegon probably thought they were voting for Josef Stalin. Or whatever that lead singer guy's name is.

And now I need to go to bed. But if anyone doubts that the Decemberists thing was in a whole bunch of the reports on the Portland rally (I won't say all, I only read ~5 at the time), I'm happy to get a passel of 'em tomorrow.

So do I!

If he actually made this a plank of his platform, I might vote for him.

I don't think that band could draw that many people on their own...nor could Obama in that setting.

But in that area where the left of the left dwell I can certainly see the buzz getting to fever pitch about that band and being free...the weather looked perfect too.

Still mostly misleading that it was an Obama draw.

Yep, if 75,000 people came to see:

A) a relatively obscure indie band that normally draws 500-1,000 people and never had a top 30 album and

B) the charismatic, Democratic presidential nominee to be,

then it's surely "mostly misleading" to infer that, you know, those people came for the Democratic presidential nominee to be.

Right? Or, maybe, you know, not?

(In other words: Brand X, you can't be serious here, can you? Silliness.)

The power to draw adoring crowds = Number One credential for the presidency of the US.

Who is the coolest candidate?

Well, he or she should win hands down.

I just love that Obama guy! He's so much sexier than McCain!

I promise that it won't hurt my feelings.

While we're at it, do you really think "If you want sexy you should probably reinvent Spiro Agnew." was clever?

What the f*ck is it supposed to mean?

actually it meant that such as yourself find extreme corruption such as Agnew attractive simply because they says things (written by William Safire) as sexy.
