You are simply making excuses for this man. This Reverend Wright IS A BIGOT. I understand that he went off the deep end when he said those things, but the things he said HE BELIEVES.

I don't blame Wright's for his bigotry, he's experienced some things that I couldn't even imagine. But to claim that he is NOT a bigot is simply WRONG.

I don't know the man well enough to know if he is a bigot or not. But if it makes you feel more comfortable to think he is and assuages your guilt over your own feelings, go for it.

Procedural votes in the US Senate are not "actions" They are procedures. As a Senator, actions would be sponsoring legislation. And a lot of work done behind the scenes.

The media is drumming up the discord in connection with Jeremiah Wright's demogogic words. However, Wright has not killed a single person. On the other hand, Bush and Cheney have killed untold numbers of people, and created millions of refugees.

Is Jeremiah Wright Responsible for Any Deaths? Bush and Cheney are Responsible for One Million!
By Bill Hare
03/22/2008 10:10:07 PM EST

As the right that has bellyached ad nauseum about Reverend Jeremiah Wright, his comments need to be taken in context and analyzed in a way that they will never do. They thrive on snippets and howls with no analysis.
One thing we do know. Jeremiah Wright is responsible for no deaths. If even such a possibility existed the Fox Fixed News hordes would have tumbled on the information by now, whether true or not.

One thing we do know and the mainstream media has run away from this simple and unavoidable truth in the same manner that they have pounced on virtually every snippet, comment or sigh emanating from Jeremiah Wright's career in the pulpit.

The media has run and run hard from discussing the tragic fact that the neoconservative administration of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney is currently responsible for over one million deaths in Iraq. Add to that a figure of another 2 and a half million refugees who have fled as a result of the conflict.

There is no record of Jeremiah Wright joking about one death, much less over one million. The same does not hold true for George Bush, who sang and joked the other day about the false claim of "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq just the other day and had also done so at another point in time.
Bush also sang and joked about the pardon of Scooter Libby, who was disbarred the other day from the practice of law in the District of Columbia. That was another less than hilarious subject, to say the very least.

Libby was one of the players in the sordid vengeance as well as potential information cover-up in which a loyal American, Valerie Plame, a researcher in the field of nuclear weapons for the Central Intelligence Agency, was outed.

This occurred after her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, revealed that the administration's claim that Saddam Hussein was seeking yellow cake from Niger in the development of a nuclear weapons capability was false, devoid of any foundation.

This outing carried the frightening possibility of Ms. Plame's extinction.

We have heard so many times the account of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt. Well, the other day, as he was waiting for 2008 Republican Party presidential nominee John McCain to arrive, Bush was happy to do a little tap dance, giddy all the while.

Yes, there is so much to be giddy about! In addition to the continuing deaths in Iraq, in which a UN weapons study in Iraq was pre-empted based on fear that Hans Blix and his inspection team would reveal the truth that the claim of Saddam Hussein possessed "weapons of mass destruction" that he was preparing to unleash against us was bogus, the economy is moving along beautifully.

Visit the downtown section of any large city and you will find increasing waves of homeless people. The situation has become nothing short of critical in the city where I grew up, Los Angeles, as well as the one where I make my current home, Seattle.

Economic experts warned that such a calamity, a raging onrush of poor people, would engulf the nation if the Bush-Cheney outrageous tax cuts designed to benefit the rich were enacted, coupled with the expensive undertaking of a war that should never have been fought.

The current figure that appears on the U.S. Debt Clock site as this is being written stands at $9,395,673,602,505.70. Each citizen's share in this land of over 300 million stands at $30,940.25.

Since September 29, 2006 the National Debt has grown per day by an average of $1.65 million.

How many times have you seen the above figures posted by the mainstream media?

How many times have you seen the above figures posted by the mainstream media?

How many times in the last week have you seen references to Jeremiah Wright?

Get the connection? What do they want you to read? What do they want to sweep under the rug?

Take the words that Wright had said and replace "white" with "black".

Now, what if Don Imus had said it? Bigot or not?
How about Glen Beck? Bigot or not?
How about Hagee? Bigot or not?

Rather than face the brand of prejudice practiced throughout America' history and the history of Blacks in America, the posters here, who are so rabid against Minister Wright, can't and won't face and admit, that they are prejudiced against Obama, in the first place. What I'm reading here, is what I was warned against as a child, growing up Black, in racially segregated New Orleans. I was also taught, that not all whites were prejudiced or bad, however this country chose after the Civil War, to turn a blind's eye, to the Jim Crow laws practiced throughout the South.

Before 1964, the nations prisons were 80% white and with passage of 2 civil rights Acts, not laws, just barely 40 years ago, the draconian Rockefeller drug laws and institutionalized racism, have reversed the prison population to 80% Black and drove a new industry, the prison industrialization complex, that has imprisoned over 2 million Blacks, since 1964. The disenfranchisement of Florida's Blacks in the 2000 election, the "fixing" of the voting machines in Ohio in 2004, a conservative Supreme Court deciding a federal election, now high unemployment, poisons in children's toys, plastic in dog food, the price of oil in the US, that is not short on supply, but the fixing of the prices by Bush's Arab honchos and this last statement by Tim Wise is so telling.

"So white folks are mad at Jeremiah Wright because he challenges their views about their country. Meanwhile, those same white folks, and their ministers and priests, every week put forth a false image of the God Jeremiah Wright serves, and yet it is whites who feel we have the right to be offended. "

A white man defending what Blacks and people of color have felt for over 450 years, when we were "stolen" from our native lands and told we had no history, no culture, no language, yet no one speaks with truth, because the light of truth blinds the hell out of the lies told for centuries. Cool 2 Cents

TeenyBoone, I know you are describing it as you see it, and I respect that. But I think the way you (and some others) see it is part of the problem. Here's why:

One says that the rightwingers on the thread are 'dismissive' of anything defending Jeremiah Right or Barack Obama; yet that same person and those who agree with her ignore the accusations of bias, prejudice, dishonesty, etc. etc. etc. directed at opposing points of view. The rebuttals are often angry or dismissive and/or insulting. A little ability to see that both sides hold strong, if differing, views and have valid reasons for holding them could go a long way toward finding what common ground exists. (I hasten to say that ALL members, Left or Right, are not insulting or dismissive and some do seem to be making at least an effort to understand the point of view of the others.)

You say
Quote:
the posters here, who are so rabid against Minister Wright, can't and won't face and admit that they are prejudiced against Obama, in the first place.

I think any American who loves his/her country and who is capable of seeing the whole history that includes some really good stuff as well as bad stuff will oppose the message of Jeremiah Wright, and that includes a lot of Obama supporters. Racial dynamics in America can and should certainly continue to improve, but neither America nor the average white person, rich or not, deserves the condemnation that Wright heaps upon it. His message is angry and divisive and prejudicial and promotes the very attitudes that we need to get past in order to move forward.

Some here will be supporting Hillary because they believe she is the better candidate. The conservatives will be supporting McCain or 'none of the above' because they can't stand Hillary and/or know Obama to be so far left in his ideology that he will certainly push a socialist agenda that we cannot support. Those of you supporting Obama may be doing so because he appeals to you as a person or because you like what he says or because he seems better than Hillary or because you wouldn't vote for a Republican no matter who he or she was.

Prejudice comes into play for sure, but I am reasonably certain that what prejudice exists in the dynamics is ideological and not racial.

I make no apology for being born Black. I make no apology for being taught a version of American History, that purposely leaves out the 250 year legacy of slavery. Whites have fooled themselves into believing that the country stolen from the Native Americans, was okay! Watch any western from the 30's through the 70's and see the justification. You brand yourselves Irish-Americans in March, Italian-Americans, on March 19th and Oct. 12th for Columbus's so-called "discovery"! None of you "get" it! Yet, it is the very foundation on which Christianity, is based! When the Angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph, in a dream and TOLD him, to take Mary and the baby to Egypt, why? Because they BLENDED, in and wouldn't be recognized by Herod's men! A biblical lesson in racism, spelled out to you. Jesus came amongst His own and His own, knew him, not! For that, he was tortured and crucified! Today, it's no different. Thank you! I am not black but as a teen, I got a job working in the African-American community in Baltimore as well as getting involved in the Civil Rights movement. (it was a MOST rewarding experience) Even for me, it is impossible to completely understand the black experience in America but I do have a better understanding than most white folk. People like ma and FF just don't get it and I find people who are not overt in their bigotry are the most dangerous.

It was Wright's tone more than anything that frightens whites. Except for his GD America statement,I didn't find the words offensive. The only reason that Obama suffered politically from this is becasue the MSM palyed these words on a continuous loop.

Obama has a base of two million donors. We are all simply going to have to dig down and send in our fives, tens and twenties to counteract the 527 smears that are sure to come in the fall.

It has nothing to do with opposing bigotry and hate. Everyone should (and most do) oppose both of those things.

You just ruffle feathers for shits and giggles. That is not making peace, it's destroying it.

DO NOT try to paint me as some closet racist or bigot. Just because I can recognize bigoted words and thoughts when I see them (from both whites and blacks) does not make me a bigot.

We can have an argument when talking about how much of Wrights views you can attribute to Obama (if any), but there should be no argument that Wright's views are bigoted and hateful.
