Obviously I'm hoping for the third, and think he's capable of it. I think the second may be more likely. Scared of the first.)

The bottom line is that if Obama can't defend himself aginst this, the first of many right-wing smear campaigns, he doesn't deserve to be president.

Hog poop. This presents no valid metric for figuring out whether he would be a good or poor president.

All this incident (and whatever happens in the future regarding it) tells us are things about America, about the rightwing slime machine along with relevant concerns regarding whether any immensely talented liberal african american can surmount those impediments to achieve the presidency (which has a relevancy regarding dems' choices in this candidacy battle).

He isn't giving his "speech" because of a technical problem.

Maybe he should contact Hillary to get that technical problem fixed. Is there a red phone available?

Maybe Rev. Wright should start up a prayer group to get the juiced flowing into that technical problem.

Here, for example, are the front page lead pieces in today's National Review...

Quote:
ELECTION 2008
Obama & Wright

THE EDITORS: The problem for Obama is that the length and depth of his relationship with the Rev. Wright and his unconvincing attempts to distance himself from his mentor tell Americans far more about his values and judgment than his compelling campaign speeches about "The Audacity of Hate" 03/18 4:00 AM

RICH LOWRY: Obama does damage control. "The Dishonesty of Hope" 03/18 12:00 AM

THOMAS SOWELL: Senator Barack Obama's political success thus far has been a blow for equality. But equality has its down side. "Double Life of Barack Obama" 03/18 12:00 AM

PETER KIRSANOW: Obama is not colorblind. "False Hope" 03/18 6:00 AM

PETER WEHNER: Obama can't try to explain "black liberation theology" in a sympathetic light. "No Postmodern Road to the White House" 03/18 6:00 AM

Looks like he's contacted Hillary and she's working on the technical problem.

Glad she knows how to answer the red phone! Laughing

The CNN pre-speech conversation is fascinating. Black anchor, two black commentators, saying things you don't usually see. Helpful right there I think (I hope everyone's watching CNN...)

Are you frigging kidding me i.e. the way a candidate reacts to attacks form opponents has nothing to do with his or her capability to respind to pressures after getting the job?

We all knew this was coming and we (Obama supporters) always had faith that Obama would be able to overcome it. And I think he will. in fact, just reading the speech gave me chills. Obama is about to hit one out of the park starting NOW!

Maybe he should get a job with the Chicago Cubs! Laughing

Obama is full of BS...plain and simple. Has this man ever wonder how the slums of Chicago's SouthSide orignated? Does he have blinders on when he attends that church on West 95th Street?

Lord, will this man ever face reality?

He backtracked. He has said many times that he never heard those 'controversial' remarks and told FoxNews on Friday night that if he had heard them in person, he'd have quit the church.

Now we learn from his own words that he did hear them.

Quote:
Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.

The delivery was very low key. But very sincere, quietly passionate. I felt it and had to reach for the kleenex. This is an extraordinary man and extraordinary candidate. At an extraordinary time for our country.

Visually, fantastic delivery. Low key but passionate. Sincere. I kept hoping he'd say something and then chortling when he did. "He really said it!"

I know I'm not the most impartial audience but I thought it was absolutely fantastic, the whole thing. Words and delivery.

Next step is to see how it's received.
