You act as if the other option was so appealing. It is not. If Hillary really represented what a lot of Dems wanted, Obama wouldn't have a chance.

But she's been wrong on Iraq, on Torture, on running a clean race. It has turned those who were marginally against her positions into people who are solidly for someone else.

And, this is something I've been meaning to ask. What makes people think she'd be so much better at running things then Obama? Leadership is as much getting the people beneath you to do a good job as it is micro-managing. I've seen no evidence that Hillary is going to be any more effective then he will.

Kicky - don't you know any Republicans except me?! Party registrations can be changed before the election and lots of Republicans in several states not allowing crossover primary votes are casting ballots for Hillary. The calculation is she'll be easier to beat in November, whereas he might actually win the election:)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant with that statement.

Right on healthcare, from day 1.

I think Obama is more liberal than Teddy Kennedy, which will not go over well in the general. We need more of a moderate, which Clinton is.

Hard to believe. In most states you have to register to vote a significant time before the actual date. In CA and other places you would have had to switch your party registration before NH, Giuliani and Thompson were still in it. I don't really see this as being that huge a factor.

Cycl - not a huge factor, but every vote counts. As to the logistics, check them yourself - as I said, they vary from state to state, but there's ample time everywhere.

Think about it:

Foxfire thinks we may be on to something having to do with the letters of the alphabet.

And Bear thinks we maybe should be cautious. We don't want McCain for president do we?

Interesting. It seems we have a case of role reversal.

Hang in there Bear. I'm with you.

Sure, but there's also the Proportional nature of the race to take into account.

In most CD's they split the vote depending on a certain percentage range, so if you win 30-49% of the vote you get the same number of delegates. It would be pretty rare that enough Republicans crossed over to move Hillary into a whole 'nother category, say 51-70 or 70+ (which she won't get anywhere and likely Obama only will in some extremely heavy AA districts).

And, let's not forget - maybe Republicans can cross over to vote for Obama too!

Well, he's been endorsed. Oprah of day time TV, the modern day reality soaps says she wants this man to be president. And whatever Oprah wants, Oprah gets. Her wisdom is the last word. Robert De Niro agrees.

And the Kennedys....the ones that glitter, that is. Teddy, in the voice of a santimonious preacher down by the river on revival day says Obama will be ready on day one.

We seem to have forgotten that Teddy drove his car off the Dyke Bridge on Chappaquiddick Island and left his young female companion for dead. But surely he's learned his lesson. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury and he was sentenced to two months in jail, which was suspended. Youthful indiscretion.

And the young people....isn't it great to see them politically active at last? We're so proud of our above average offspring. Shall we follow them anywhere they lead us? We learned long ago that if it feels good, we should do it. The faint words of our parents ring distantly in our ears. "Wait to get married. If you're really in love, he'll be there in four years." It was silly advice at the time.

The results tonight will tell us something about whether we're impulsive enough to ignore caution for the thrill of a new found love. Maybe we should wait and learn something about who this man is. Where has be been and where will he lead us? But it's not up to me. I live in Oregon.

FreeDuck talked about one kind of dismissal, this is another kind. That if you support Obama it's because you're in loooove. Allied to the cult thing but its own thing.

And every bit as patronizing and trivializing.

From Hotline:

Quote:
AZ Robocall Hits Obama On Social Security

Per NJ Contributing Editor Linda Douglass, this call is reportedly going out to Arizona voters:

WOMAN: This is Ann calling on behalf of Hillary Clinton for President. Hillary Clinton has been a tireless fighter for seniors [unintelligible]. Barack Obama has said when it comes to Social Security all options should be put on the table. That includes raising the retirement age and cutting benefits. He has even proposed raising Social Security taxes by a trillion dollars. Hillary Clinton stood up to Bush's plan to privatize Social Security and is against raising the retirement age. When you go to the polls tomorrow cast your vote for the Democrat committed to protecting Social Security as we know it: Hillary Clinton.

Again with the 'trillion dollar' lie. Is there any doubt that one side is running a dirtier race then the other?

I'd like to see a little outrage at Hillary using classic right-wing mailers to attack Obama.

http://www.bluejersey.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=6847

Cycloptichorn

1) Which part of this mailer do you assert is false?

Hillarys claim about the Cheney energy bil is comletely false.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/stacking_the_deck.html
Clinton once again mischaracterized the 2005 energy bill, saying it had "enormous giveaways" to oil and gas companies. In truth, the measure raised taxes on those industries.

2) Even if Clinton's attack flyer is a dishonest smear, which it may well be: This thread is about Obama. Some correspondents here post about Obama's strengths. Others post about Obama's weaknesses. Yet others present a balance about him. But the title of this thread is "Obama 08?", not "Clinton 08?" If few people attack Hillary when she's out of line, that's just because this thread isn't about Clinton. You'll have to live with that.

3) All that said -- if this mailer turns out to be demonstrably false, put me down as outraged.
Then be outraged.
Obama did vote for the bill, but he didnt vote for it because he is a hypocrite.
Here is why he voted for it, in his own words...
Obama: Well, the reason I voted for it [the 2005 energy bill] was because it was the single largest investment in clean energy - solar, wind, biodiesel - that we had ever seen. And I think it is - we talked about this earlier - if we are going to deal with our dependence on foreign oil, then we're going to have to ramp up how we're producing energy here in the United States.
That comes from here...
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/stacking_the_deck.html

This may already have been answered, if it has forgive me.
