Hi and I hope everyone enjoys our Independence Day weekend.
I suspect that most of us agree (conventional wisdom) that the economy will be the dominant issue in November, 2012.
Today I was previewing an article that will appear in the NYTimes tomorrow. It followed up on gay marriage after NY became the 6th state and the largest state to permit it. 29 states currently have bans.
I have come to the conclusion that social issues like gay marriage and abortion may turn out to be much more critical then expected.
- The National Organization for Marriage is in the process of defeating the 4 Repubs in NY who voted in favor of legalizing gay marriages with a budget of $2mn.
- The same organization is raising $20mn nationwide, focusing on Catholic and evangelical Christians.
- Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire and North Carolina are among states that may have voting on gay marriage next year. NH's may come right around the time of their presidential primary and the key state of NC - which Obama's people consider quite critical - may have a vote on a constitutional amendment on the same day as the presidential vote.

It all depends - Conservatives celebrate Independence Day, Liberals celebrate Tax Day.

@H2O MAN,
With Independence comes responsibility.
Taxes are part of being independent.

@Region Philbis,

Obama will not be re-elected.

I assume the look on your face when Obama gets his dumb ass handed to him on silver platter
after suffering a landslide defeat will be the same as it is today... kind of a deer in the headlights.

Somebody watery is whistling in the dark to scare his fears away.
Wall Street had its best month since the depths of the Bush recession.
Factory production was up again in June.
And Obama outpolls every single Republican runner.
It's looking good for 2012,
Whistle a little louder, H2, maybe it'll help.

MJackoff and his ilk have a tough time accepting that this
recession and the pending double dip, or worse is Obama's.

I guess the new liberal slogan is: Ignorance is Bliss - Seriously!

Largely because it's not. It was caused by greed, deregulation and lack of oversight over a period of years well before Obama took office. Which is why it was already going at a full gallop before Obama took office. He turned it around, not that conservatives helped him in any way to do it.

@MontereyJack,

Yes, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd and other key democrats were hard at work screwing things up
years before Obama took office. Liberals have not done a single thing to help this country.

well, no, it's largely been conservative trickle-up economics and free-the-sharks-to-bite-again deregulation, not to mention right wing judicial activism that have screwed things up. Conservanomics brought us the Great DepressionI, conservanomics almost brought us Great Depression II, which was already gathering steam til Obamanomics mitigated its worst effects.

@MontereyJack,

Well no, it's Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd and other key democrats working to screw things up years before Obama took office.

Things have only gotten worse since Obama began his rule and the only way the make the situation
better is to vote Obama out of power and rid this country of the foursome pictured here.
