@Cycloptichorn,
I am no expert on this, but I think they believe Jesus was a prophet or something, but not the son of God. There is a big difference there. I think Mohammed, the founder of Islam, was almost converted to Christianity, but instead decided to start his own religion. My wife told me this, as I think she did a term paper on this in some college class she had to take a long time ago now.

No, there's not. It's a tiny difference at best.

I do like how Christians here in America like to present Islaam as if it's some sort of complete foreign devil heathen religion, when in fact the two are extremely closely related - more like brothers, really, than any two other religions in the world.

A "tiny difference at best" between Son of God and prophet? You have to be kidding, cyclops?

@Cycloptichorn,
My apologies. The post was from The New Republic and not Salon, although McWhorter (yes, I misspelled his name as well . . . it was very late when I posted this and I was falling asleep) has published on Salon as well as TNR, and is a frequent contributor to NPR.

Don't jump to conclusions: the man is considered a conservative.

I reread his article twice and I have no idea what gave okie the notion that this man thinks Obama may be a Muslim. That is not what he said. He said it doesn't matter whether he is or isn't. He also pointed out that there were rumors FDR was a Jew and being called a Jew in America during the 30s and 40s was a serious negative label.

Still in his 40s, McWhorter attended Friends School in Philly then Simon's Rock College. Although those sound like prime liberal creds, they aren't in his case. He later earned a degree in French from Rutgers, then a degree in American Studies from NYU and, finally, a doctorate in linguistics from Stanford.

He has taught at Cornell, Berkeley and Columbia. He is also a fellow at the conservative think-tank, the Manhattan Institute.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEFTIST LIBERALS AND RIGHTIST CONSERVATIVES?

Leftist Liberals seek more government control over people's lives.
Rightist Conservatives seek more individual control over their own lives.

Leftist Liberals seek more equal distribution of wealth.
Rightist Conservatives seek more merit distribution of wealth.

Leftist Liberals seek more dependence by the needy on government charity.
Rightist Conservatives seek more dependence by the needy on private charity.

Leftist Liberals seek less dependence by the needy on private charity.
Rightist Conservatives seek less dependence by the needy on government charity.

Leftist Liberals rarely specify what Leftist Liberals think.
Rightist Conservatives regularly specify what Rightist Conservatives think.

Leftist Liberals regularly incorrectly claim what Rightist Conservatives think.
Rightist Conservatives regularly correctly claim what Leftist Liberals think.

@ican711nm,
ican, do you derive some sort of perverse pleasure from boring people? You have no idea what the world is about and you write this meaningless stuff.

Post something new and verifiable.

Why would the son of god help a country kill his children and steal their wealth? That just ain't biblical, Okie, nor is it very god-like/christ-like.

Why would I be kidding? What difference does it make, which quasi-mystical figure from history people choose to illogically worship?

@JTT,
The first human religions involved a sacrifice. While I think sacrifice is a good thing, I do not think blood sacrifice is. The problem with Christianity is that it did not move very far away from some of the earliest religions. Abraham's (the father of all religions of the book) god commands him to slay his son. The First Person of the Trinity sends the Second Person to be murdered.

RIGHTIST CONSERVATIVES use all caps when they write sentences?

Or maybe, RIGHTIST CONSERVATIVES make all kinds of idiotic claims when they try to make themselves out as better than anyone else.

@parados,
That's because okie and ican can identify "us" by our looks. We're all commie socialists, and the RIGHT CONSERVATIVES are angels in disguise. They must have a secret code word or finger sign to identify themselves.
