@JTT,
Since its a list you posted, it is automatically suspect.

And since you dont know exactly who created that list, that makes it suspect also.
You will have to do better then that.

@mysteryman,
mm, Quit wasting your time feeding JTT; he believes he's holier than thou, and attacks the US with irresponsible abandon as if the US is the only guilty country on this planet of atrocities. His hate for America and Americans are obvious from all those negative postings he's made without any balance of the good things our country has done. He claims he holds some Americans close to his heart, but I'm not sure those same Americans feel the same way about him.

He's a hyprocrite - first class on a2k.

@mysteryman,
I didn't really expect it to make you change your mind in any way, MM. You've got so much personally/emotionally invested in denying all these war crimes/terrorist actions by the US.

If you can maintain a degree of concentration for longer than a few seconds, try this,

@mysteryman,

US CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY & GLOBAL TERRORISM

US Versus World at the United Nations

The US has repeatedly acted to undermine peace and human rights initiatives
at the United Nations, routinely voting against hundreds of UN resolutions
and treaties. The US easily has the worst record of any nation on not
supporting UN treaties. In almost all of its hundreds of "no" votes, the US
was the "sole" nation to vote no (among the 100-130 nations that usually
vote), and among only 1 or 2 other nations voting no the rest of the time.
Here's a representative sample of US votes from 1978-1987:

http://www.the-philosopher.co.uk/whocares/popups/warcrimes.htm

Quote:
The United States versus the World at the United Nations

by William Blum

America, we have all been taught for half a century, is the leader of "The Free World". If this is so, it's proper to ask: Where are the followers? Where is the evidence that Washington's world view sways the multitude of nations? To enlist support for its wars in Korea, Vietnam and in the Gulf, the United States had to resort to a lot of bribery and threats. At the United Nations, the US has, with noteworthy regularity, been on the minority side in voting on resolutions. The table below shows a portion of this pattern.

It covers an arbitrarily chosen 10-year period, 1978 through 1987, and is composed of the following sections:

1978-1981: All voting in the General Assembly examined; only those resolutions for which the US cast a solitary "no" vote or were joined by one or two other nations are listed.

1982-1983: All voting in the General Assembly examined; only those resolutions for which the US cast a solitary "no" vote are listed.

1984-1987: Only a portion of the General Assembly resolutions are examined, and a sample has been selected, primarily for diversity.

The number of abstentions is not shown. There were many resolutions where Israel cast a solitary "no" vote and the US was the sole abstainer.

Voting on resolutions of the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council are not included here, but these votes show a very similar pattern. In the Council -- where its solitary "no" vote is enough to defeat a measure -- the United States is free to play its role of international school bully.

We were all also taught that the Communists had no respect for world opinion.

"... a decent respect to the opinions of mankind ..."

Do you think that you'll get much support from MM on this one, CI? He has never acknowledged any atrocities, any terrorism, any war crimes by the USA. All he has ever done is run cover for these activities.

Of course you don't know. The thought of actually doing any research is anathema to you. He stated the facts, he knew what country he was in at the time, he knew that those US business interests were in those countries to steal the wealth from them.

all this whining about JTT drives me nuts, JTT has just as much right to post on a2k as anyone else (more so than some) if someone doesn't like his posts, don't read him. simple right? I applaud his stamina in spite of the constant ridicule. So shut up already, read or don't read his posts but, for me anyway, I'm tired of thumbing down all the many posts complaining about JTT's posts. I'd rather read JTT's post than read posts complaining about JTT's post.

The following quote by JTT tells us all we need to know about the credibility of JTT and Smedley Butler in my opinion.

"The Definitive List of US terrorism/war crimes - Lord, let's hope it is"

JTT apparently hopes that list is accurate and true. That would only come from a twisted mind in my opinion, from someone that actually hates this country and wants to believe the worst. He wants the most oulandish claims of war crimes to be true. That tells us more than we need to know about JTT.

If that is true, then it doesn't make it as bad for JTT, I would agree. I took it that he hoped all of that stuff was absolutely true, but perhaps I was wrong.

@okie,
I am sure that JTT will respond when he has time. Frankly, your interpretation and your emotional response to it were strange. Even if JTT wished the list to be true, that wish does not make him un-American.

I immediately read JTT's response as saying he hoped it was a final list. That is the usual definition.

I have pretty much given up on this and other related threads, as have many other folks. There simply is too much repetitious carping from the same few people.
But I did come across something today that I found curious. President Obama evidently was interviewed by Brian Williams (NBC).
The AP article reporting on this twice had Obama as saying (in the print version)
"Gonna." As in the economy "is gonna recover."
That struck me as odd.

I'm not sure how Smedley Butler figures into this quote of mine, Okie. Perhaps you can explain yourself.

Precisely at the point when you begin to develop a conscience, you must find yourself in conflict with your society. It is your responsibility to change society if you think of yourself as an educated person.
- James Baldwin

Was this a test to see how many distortions you could pack into one short paragraph?

A nation that cannot get angry at its official betrayers has lost a resource more important than any other.
- Garry Wills

@realjohnboy,
What is odd about that? Have we been led to mistakenly believe Obama was some sort of great orator or what? Or it could be a case of him trying to be cool and relate to less educated or something? After all, I did see recently that almost one third of Democrats never finished high school, they are high school dropouts, rjb.

I am sorry to constantly denigrate Obama, but eventually folks have to face the truth about the man, that he was never that super sharp to begin with, and it is frustrating to see so many people have not awakened to the reality of it. They fell for a giant snow job by the MSM.

Okie, you're not being honest.

I hoped that he took all of that stuff was absolutely true,

@okie,

RJB: But I did come across something today that I found curious. President Obama evidently was interviewed by Brian Williams (NBC).
The AP article reporting on this twice had Obama as saying (in the print version)
"Gonna." As in the economy "is gonna recover."
That struck me as odd.

You've just finished making an ass of yourself at most two posts back, Okie and now this. Yes, Okie, what is odd about that?

I ask you the same question, RJB, though I will note that you have not made an ass of yourself. Yours seems to be a genuine question.

Coincidentially, I'm reminded of an article that was used today in another posting here at A2K.

In it, Professor Pullum made the astute observation that,

The bottom line here is that people who are clueless about English grammar shouldn't be trying to humiliate others over grammar for political advantage. ... Not knowing [how language really works] is like not knowing how to add small integers.

I have pretty much given up on this and other related threads, as have many other folks. There simply is too much repetitious carping from the same few people.

I am having some of the same thoughts, rjb. To be honest, you are the only Obama supporter or Democrat leaning poster that makes any sense on these threads with any consistency, rjb. Thanks for that much. I will also have to give credit to cyclops and ci, they make occasional sense and can argue decent points from time to time. Otherwise there isn't much on your side of the ledger to further your causes that make any sense at all, in fact it would seem that pom does far more damage to your side than adding any credibility. I hope I haven't forgotten someone, but thats about it as far as I can recall right now.

Perhaps Pres Obama realizes that he has to operate on the principle,

Tell people something they know already and they will thank you for it.
Tell them something new and they will hate you for it.

We've seen what happens here by telling people something new, especially when it radically contradicts many long cherished myths.

So what will happen if, as expected, Republicans win control of the House? We already know part of the answer: Politico reports that they’re gearing up for a repeat performance of the 1990s, with a “wave of committee investigations” — several of them over supposed scandals that we already know are completely phony. We can expect the G.O.P. to play chicken over the federal budget, too; I’d put even odds on a 1995-type government shutdown sometime over the next couple of years.

It will be an ugly scene, and it will be dangerous, too. The 1990s were a time of peace and prosperity; this is a time of neither. In particular, we’re still suffering the after-effects of the worst economic crisis since the 1930s, and we can’t afford to have a federal government paralyzed by an opposition with no interest in helping the president govern. But that’s what we’re likely to get.

If I were President Obama, I’d be doing all I could to head off this prospect, offering some major new initiatives on the economic front in particular, if only to shake up the political dynamic. But my guess is that the president will continue to play it safe, all the way into catastrophe.
