I'm sorry that your memory is poor but that is no reason to take it out on me. I also suspect that you don't read much and that you have few conversations face-to-face with people.
Actually, since so many college teachers are adjuncts, high school teachers are generally better paid.
However, the more competitive schools pay more and offer amazing benefits. I selected a town whose schools are perennially among the Top Ten in MA. The main employers of residents were, not surprisingly, Harvard and MIT. When we moved there in 1983, the 'average (and I do not remember which of the averages that was . . . and I know you have trouble with the concept of mean, median and mode)' salary for Harvard professors was $60,000.
The salaries at state universities generally match the standard of living within the state. There is no uniform pay standard across the nation but within each state.
