Consider how our own om sig went on and on and on about Elian Gonzalez.

By the way, has anyone checked to see if poor Elian is now 99% or 100% indoctrinated by the dictator Castro in Cuba? Pom, why don't you see if your buddy, Fidel, would let you visit and check on that? If you are lucky, maybe you could stay down there in the land of opportunity and the leftist paradise?

@Advocate,
Of course, in order to have a debate with someone, the definitions of the terms used have to be agreed upon. ican, okie, om sig, finn, et al. define all political terms in a unique way.

@okie,
How would you prove his level of indoctrination? You can not debate that which is unprovable.

And I never met Fidel, just as I never met you. That would put each of you on the same plane and neither of you would be my "buddy." Stop putting words in my mouth: you simply are not smart enough to do that.

That was back in the days when virtually all Americans despised communists, pom.

Surely you are not an example of liberals being more well educated.

@plainoldme,
Wrong!!!
The first American troops went to Vietnam in 1950, when Harry S Truman was president.
Quote:

The United States entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam as part of their wider strategy of containment. Military advisors arrived beginning in 1950

And Harry Truman was a democrat, btw.

It's interesting that you think this. It seems that each year of my life makes me more liberal. Perhaps more accurate, each year makes the GOP look more and more misguided and short-sighted.

I don't live or work in liberal isolation, so it's not like I'm not exposed to it on a daily basis.

One good thing Obama has done for this country:

The flow of illegal Mexicans into this country has dropped off because Obamanomics is killing our economy.

Since we no longer have "free" television, my son no longer watches springer, which is too bad. I would have loved to have seen them there. Do they hold hands?

@okie,
How can you say that with such assurance? You had to be somewhere around 10 when it happened, too young to be politically aware, and, as your posts here demonstrate, you are not a student of history.

Besides, even if most Americans "despised" (I would think that the proper word would be "feared," as loose cannons in Congress and the media whipped up a frenzy akin to that loosed on the world by Chicken Little) Communists or, perhaps, communists, that was no reason to police Viet Nam.

Viet Nam has become quite Americanized. City kids dye their hair brown or blonde, ride motorbikes and listen to dreadful pop music.

@failures art,
I'm probably old enough to be your mother and I can say without a moment's hesitation that life has continually made me more liberal. How can I be anything else in light of continued injustice, racism and environmental degradation? I have to take personal responsibility . . . as only a liberal does . . . for the state of the world and for my adult kids who have at least 30 years each (I might have 30 years and they might have 60 or more!) and for my grandkids.

@failures art,
i'm at least twice your age, and i have to agree, at least where the christian right wing side of conservatism is concerned, i can't get behind their rhetoric, even where i might agree with their policies

a lot has to do with how you want to live your life, for me, i have no kids, never been married, have no desire to be a success in the common sense of the word, don't mind paying taxes to support social issues
