@spendius,
Not totally true; Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are both generous philanthropists who have given billions for charitable causes - and that's all around the world. They both have my respect and admiration.

@cicerone imposter,
I said the top half not 2 in 301 million. The gifts of those two men don't affect the lifestyle they choose. I'm meaning those whose would have to make cuts. The top 150 million.

What is the President coming to Copenhagen for with an empty briefcase. The
Republicans are boycotting the proceedings and the West Virginia and Virginia democrats are not likely to vote his way. Can he swing Congress without them.

@spendius,
It's you who doesn't comprehend the English language; ask any twelve year old what you mean by "top half" of anything. You might learn something.

When you go to the pub and order a pint of ale, and you drink half of it; the top half is gone.

This is what edgar said to you on another thread, and it also applies here.

@djjd62,
That too, occurred to me as well. While we in the lower 48 refer to our cousins in Canada as Canadians and rightfully so, you ARE North Americans, just as the Mexicans below us. When "certain" Americans think that we are "exclusive", not so! When we get it through our thick skulls, that ALL of North America inhabitants are TRUE North Americans, maybe their "pea" brains will finally kick in and real brotherhood just might be achieved.

@revel,
I appreciate you taking the time to acknowledge what we all know. It's not about Black or White. It's about practicing what we preach. We wouldn't have to argue over health care, if we all had access to it. Not have to worry over who pays taxes, when we should ALL pay our fair share. Without them, we'd have no government, just chaos. If emergency medical and national services were available, we wouldn't have to declare a national emergency.

We are over-regulated, taxed to death, preached to and for heaven sakes rebuked for what we believe in, God or not! Utopia? Yes, my dream world.
In this wonderful and beautiful country that someone, if not God has blessed us with, I just wish we could all hold hands and help each other, lift each other up and help other countries, WHEN we can and not be the police of the world. That's all.

When politicians act up and break the law, kick the bums out! ALL of them!

@ican711nm,
If what you say is true, where were the Red Cross and the Salvation Army after Katrina? I'll say it again, cut my hands off if I ever give them a nickle! Ask my sisters and nieces how they were treated for asking for a change of clothes after losing everything, with their Black-Water guards and dogs!

The Red Cross and the Salvation Army were very helpful in Louisiana and Mississippi after Katrina.

I'll ask you how were your sisters and nieces "treated asking for a change of clothes after losing everything, with their Black-Water guards and dogs?"

Who are/were "their Black-Water guards and dogs?"

@ican711nm,
You said: (quoting me)

Depends on who you talk to. The media brought their neglect to the public. My sisters verbally told me. Who were their Blackwater guards, you asked? How do you expect ME to know? It's common knowledge that THEY hired them because their racism slip, was showing after the mis-information reported by the NOPD and the media right after the floods came, that rapes were occurring and looting. Neither turned out to be true, but black fear fueled these rumors.

Do you actually THINK I'd know the names of these hired assassins? How stupid do you think I am? You wouldn't have known them either. My sisters have NOTHING to lie about, you! You know what you can kiss, don't you?
My a$$! Southern sheriffs turned back black people crossing bridges to escape the flood waters only to be told to turn around or be shot!

You DON'T have to believe anything I say, but I'm not going to entertain your ignorant A$$ either!

Just proves the point the Bush operated against everything Americans should believe in; the rule of law. Yokels like ican will never understand that there are Constitutional guarantees to protect citizens, and let a monster like Bush take over our country by breaking both domestic and international laws. They still don't "get it."

@cicerone imposter,
While I complain against Bush, here's another one on Obama:

Quote:
Michelle Obama's staff

Well alrighty then!!!! More of the CHANGE that has come!!

Written by Dr. Paul L. Williams

"In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much," she said. "See, that's why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, "... Michelle Obama

No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn't perform any official duties. But this hasn't deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and

to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession.

Just think, Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhowe had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary from her husband's salary.

Total Personal Staff members for other first ladies paid by taxpayers:

Mamie Eisenhower : 1 paid for personally out of President's salary

Jackie Kennedy: 1

Roseline Carter: 1

Barbara Bush: 1

Hilary Clinton: 3

Laura Bush: 1

Michele Obama: 22

How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Ms Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by YOU, John Q. Public:

Michele Obama's personal staff:
1.. $172,200 - Sher, Susan (Chief Of Staff)
2. $140,000 - Frye, Jocelyn C. (Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Policy And Projects For The First Lady)
3. $113,000 - Rogers, Desiree G. (Special Assistant to the President and White House Social Secretary for Mrs. Obama)
4. $102,000 - Johnston, Camille Y. (Special Assistant to the President and Director of Communications for the First Lady)
5. $100,000 - Winter, Melissa E. (Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
6. $90,000 - Medina , David S. (Deputy Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
7. $84,000 - Lel yveld, Catherine M. (Director and Press Secretary to the First Lady)
8. $75,000 - Starkey, Frances M. (Director of Scheduling and Advance for the First Lady)
9. $70,000 - Sanders, Trooper (Deputy Director of Policy and Projects for the First Lady)
10. $65,000 - Burnough, Erinn J. (Deputy Director and Deputy Social Secretary)
11. $64,000 - Reinstein, Joseph B. (Deputy Director and Deputy Social Secretary)
12. $62,000 - Goodman, Jennifer R. (Deputy Director of Scheduling and Events Coordinator For The First Lady)
13. $60,000 - Fitts, Alan O. (Deputy Director of Advance and Trip Director for the First Lady)
14. $57,500 - Lewis, Dana M. (Special Assistant and Personal Aide to the First Lady)
15. $52,500 - Mustaphi, Semonti M. (Associate Director and Deputy Press Secretary To The First Lady)
16. $50,000 - Jarvis, Kristen E. (Special Assistant for Scheduling and Traveling Aide To The First Lady)
17. $45,000 - Lechtenberg, Tyler A. (Associate Director of Correspondence For The First Lady)
18. $43,000 - Tubman, Samanth a (Deputy Associate Director, Social Office)
19. $40,000 - Boswell, Joseph J. (Executive Assistant to the Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
20. $36,000 - Armbruster, Sally M. (Staff Assistant to the Social Secretary)
21. $35,000 - Bookey, Natalie (Staff Assistant)
22. $35,000 - Jackson, Deilia A. (Deputy Associate Director of Correspondence for the First Lady)
(total = $1,591,200 in annual salaries)

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense.

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe .

Yes, I know, The Canadian Free Press had to publish this perhaps because America no longer has a free press and the USA media is too scared that they might be considered racist or suffer at the hands of Obama.

perhapes the number is wrong

Quote:
We contacted Katie McCormick Lelyveld, Michelle Obama’s press secretary, to check the list’s accuracy. Lelyveld told us in an e-mail that the first lady’s current staff size is actually 24, not 22, as the chain e-mail claims. Lelyveld couldn’t provide a list of the staffers at that time..

That was a pretty good snow job during the campaign, that selling of her as a down home every day kida gal. I bought it.

@cicerone imposter,
This will be a prob for Obama when he tries for a second term, it will be part of a long list of particulars about how Obama is not what he claimed he was. He will complain as always "my family is OFF LIMITS!" but I doubt he can get away with that dodge again.

His people sold his wife, and she is not the person she was advertised to be. He is on the hook for that.

While they are in the top half, they are a small part of that top half. Moreover, a lot of giving by the billionaires is self-serving (e.g., tax cuts, tax requirements for foundations, publicity, etc.). To name one or two people is anecdotal, at best.

@Advocate,
We're talking about "top half." I know without you telling me that there's a huge/big spread between the top 1% and 49.999%. What are you trying to say? You know for sure that Bill and Warren did it for the tax cuts? Your mind is very small.

We also give to charities, and it's not for the 'tax cuts.'

I don't like a lot of things that Obama has done or hasn't done. Confused? I was until I realized he's a politician first and everything else, later. No one was as bad as Bush, but Obama ran on a lot of promises unkept.
