I wonder why the Washington Post recently quoted Brig. Gen. Bilal al-Dayni, commander of Iraqi troops in Basra, as saying of the Americans, "We hope they will stay until 2020." That is similar to the expectation of Iraq's defense minister, Abdul Qadir, who says his forces cannot assume full responsibility for internal security until 2012 and for external security until 2018.

Probably b/c Fred Hiatt is the biggest shill for the NeoCons in the so-called 'liberal media.'

Cycloptichorn

What does Fred Hiatt have to do with quotes from an Iraqi General and defense minister? Do you think they know nothing about the actual ability of their troops or country? Are they just Neocon plants there to divert attention away from Obama and his 16 month plan?

Again, you singled out Maliki and asked a question.

I was agreeing with okie's post in general. My bad for not being more specific in my agreement.

Can Obama be accused of hubris without meaning "uppitty?"

This is not to suggest that there aren't people who consider Obama uppitty in the sense you clearly imply, but must all charges of an inflated sense of self-worth reduce to racial slurs?

Whatever his race, there's a good case to be made that Obama is acting as if, not already the President, then something quite elevated beyond Candidate.

To some extent this makes political sense. His weakness is his lack of experience, and so a clever campaign manager would be expected to arrange for him to be portrayed as someone with real heft.

Giving Obama the benefit of the doubt and assuming his use of a quasi-presidential seal, and insistence on the Brandenburg Gate as the venue for his speech in Germany were the ideas of his handlers, rather than him, at what point does the man's personal character take over? When does he say "Cmon guys, this is getting a bit over the top and I'm just not comfortable with this hoopla?"

If Obama is "acting" presidential, it's probably based on the simple fact that he has enough confidence for the race to be in his favor until November, and the white house in January.

As Obama gets more media exposure, Hillary, oh, I mean McCain, is acting more like Hillary. The mistake Hillary made was making the statement "when I'm president..." No need for Obama to do that, because he looks more like a president than senile McCain who would embarrass our country further.

well... yeah. But it's hard not to mean "uppitty" if you use the word "uppitty", which is what H2O did.

McCain Campaign Complains Of National Bias Toward Obama
by: Chris Bowers
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 17:45
Today, the John McCain campaign released a statement complaining about what it terms the "American people's general bias toward Barack Obama." As a result of this violence, the campaign immediately demanded that the country start liking John McCain as much as it currently likes Barack Obama.

"Over the past few weeks, we have noticed a distressing national bias toward the Obama campaign," said a senior member of John McCain's staff. "According to one count, John McCain has not led in any of the last 44 national polls. While we typically expect an a bunch of elitists like the American people to be biased in favor of liberals, rarely do we see this bias to such an extreme degree. How can we expect to have a fair and balanced election when the American people so consistently favor a single candidate?"

The McCain campaign also complained about polls showing Obama with a statistically unquestionable lead in states worth 260 electoral votes, while McCain only held a similar lead in states worth 97 electoral votes. John McCain himself chimed in on this matter:

"If all those little jerks in America want to sit in the front of my complain plan, then they better stop holding such biased opinions."

Also, a new poll showing that Americans prefer a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq by a 2-1 margin particularly drew the ire of the McCain campaign, which cancelled McCain's availability to the country in response to the poll.

"If they want to gaze upon John McCain, the American people are going to have to earn it," McCain's communication director noted. "Specifically, they can attend one of the many finance receptions that make up the bulk of the Senator's campaign schedule."

The McCain campaign has also indicated that it plans to file a separate claim of bias against the rest of the world. France, in particular, drew the campaign's ire, since in that country McCain is less popular than the local perennial fascist candidate.

"This is pretty extraordinary. A candidate for the American Presidency is using flyers printed in German to turn people out for his campaign rally in Berlin on Thursday."

Yes, it has finally come to this: the right wing is criticizing Obama for printing flyers printed in German to encourage people to attend his speech ... IN GERMANY! Clearly, Obama's flagrant use of a foreign language is a menace to American liberty. Or something like that.
