There are many things that are wrong and exist. Does that justifies them. Murder and rape exist should the government stay out of legislating against them.

First, we have this:

public nudity...should it be legal?

I can go on,but you are smart enough to know that there are times when the govt should legislate your private life.

Then, when cornered on it, he writes:

Quote:
There you go,making a fool of yourself by assuming to know what I think about the issues I presented.

I did NOT give my opinion about any of those issues, because I wanted your opinion first.

Whatever you may allege now, your original post stated, and i quote: "there are times when the govt should legislate your private life." That you are unwilling to now stand by that earlier statement does not surprise me, but it makes a mockery of your claim that i had assumed anything. What i "assumed" is that the words you used mean exactly to you what they mean to me an all other speakers of English. However, i'll accept that i'm wrong, and that you never mean what you've patently said.

I must thank Mysterman for his notation of the 2003 USSC case in which Justice Kennedy said that the challenge to the "child pornography" cited was OVERBROAD and that, in Kennedy's words--"speech under the rights of adults to hear may not be silenced completely in an attempt to shield"

I am not sure that the case would go that way now that Justice Roberts and Justice Alito have joined the court. There will be other challenges offered and those challenges may delineate the issue more clearly.

Set,
Prostitution is legal and regulated in Nevada.
Do you agree with that,or do you think that prostitutes should be able to spread any diseases they might catch.

If you agree with the way Nevada regulates prostitution, then you are agreeing that it should be regulated, arent you.

Public nudity?
Should I be allowed to go to an elementary school nude while kids are in school?
If you say no,you are agreeing it should be regulated.

Should I be allowed to go nude into a courthouse?

BTW,
I noticed you sidestepped the child porn ruling I showed you.
WHY?

I am sorry, Mysteryman. I agree with your argument but Setanta has completely destroyed it.

You will have to do much better, Mysteryman.

You are dealing with a master of logic.

Kara: I think that Mr. Setanta is just perturbed that I am on these threads and that I annoy posters like you. You may note that I try not to challenge him directly since he is so brilliant that he would squash me immediately.

mele, that sentence is a classic cop-out. You are refusing to fight a battle because you insist you can't win. Thus you don't give Set a chance to engage you, and you claim a "moral victory" without unsheathing your sword. You have a right to use any such device you want, but I find it disingenuous and wimpy. Just because you claim that Set is "brilliant" has nothing to do with the validity of your own ideas. If you think you are right, then sally forth and carry your banner.

There are indeed some debaters who can win any argument and will happily change sides in a discussion to prove it. I don't think that is what this forum is about, and I don't think Set is presenting his comments that way.

The old chestnut about "My right to swing my fist stops at your nose" is an example of where our personal freedom must be limited.

Children or minors should be spared the assaults of child porn. I see no need to regulate any kind of porn if it reaches only the sad and sick adults who trade such visions for their own titillation.

Bestiality? I can think of few reasons to regulate this and they have to do with disease. Of course, an argument could be made on the basis of animal rights. Smile

I, too, think that legalizing and regulating prostitution makes sense, but few pols in state governments would risk their seats to push laws that many find difficult even to talk about.

Along the legislate-and-regulate line of thought, I have always believed that it made sense to allow illegal aliens to have driver's licenses. They will drive anyway and, as it is, they can vanish in the night after causing death or injury on the road if they cannot be traced through a license. Aliens who can drive legally know that they are on a database, which encourages them to act with at least some degree of civic responsibility even if such actions are only fear-based. (I hesitate to say the above, knowing it will open up the immigration debate, and I myself have trouble deciding where I come down on the ten million Mexican and South American illegals in this country and how to handle the issues there. I live in a state with an enormous illegal population. Surely, DTOM has his own passionate views on this as do most Californians.)
