no it isnt.

those are the primary ingredience in an american lasagna.

My tomato sauce -

1 can of diced tomatos, 1 table spoon oregano, basil, and thyme. 1 clove of garlic minced. 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder.

I take a small pan with just a little bit of olive oil and put the herbs on high heat for a minute.. just enough to soften them and bring out the flavor.
I add that to the can of tomatos and simmer with the onion powder for a few minutes..

I cook 2 links of italian sausage and cut it into thin slices and add that to the sauce instead of meat balls.

The mister and I are not big fans of cottage cheese so I use more ricotta and blended cheeses to make up for it.
Sometimes, I add cheese into the tomato sauce as well.. but for the most part i sprinkle it on thickly in layers

"italian sausage (we prefer the turkey sausage) + meatballs(pork and veal works well) - so no one will feel left out". hbg

isn't American lasagna a contradiction in terms?

And it doesn't seem to have much going for it. Onion powder! Why, f'gudness sake??

And vienna sausage - really!!!!!!!!!!

I use the onion powder in a mix of shredded cheese ,1 egg and a little bit of honey , to go on the top of the lasagna.

The onion powder and egg make a brown color / crispy layer that is really good.

vienna sausage? ewww
Thats not real food.. Laughing

The Italian sausage I get is from central market.
Basically.. organic shredded pork, seasonings.
This time, I got beef sausage instead.

Im surprised.. but the lasagna turned out REALLY good.

with most ingredience taken from this thread. ;-)

Ai chihuahua. What is this concocted lasagna you are doing?

First learn real lasagna, and then riff.

Good lord, look up a few real sites.

Start with Marcella Hazan.

Look at - oh, 72 or so sites I could name if I wasn't so sleepy.

Perhaps b b cacciano - she has really good books available in lots of US supermarkets, or used to have.

I am sorry I sound so snotty, but I am.

I admit I don't know if it is caggiano or cacciano.
