Lash - yes, isn't that interesting.....
Well, I've just come home from my second part (of three) of my first weekend of courses. I have a lot of homework - so much for the one weekend a month thing. Looks like most of my weekends will be spent doing papers.
I don't want to annoy you with multiple questions, but if you want to drop any topics of discussion, impressions, theories over here, you may.
The excitement about this whole opportunity for you hasn't sunk in yet.
I'm so happy for you!!
Hehehe.. thanks. I'm too tired to be excited.
I looks, lately, like there's been a US trend in ed towards pragmatism: a more hands-on, student centered method of teaching with assessment based on projects, student's self-assessment and standardized testing. The latter was, probably, the government's response to the less test-oriented trend.
So, students of my classmates quiz each other for spelling and assess their own knowledge before and after a given assignment/project. Many have a portfolio (a collection of their best work) as a part of their grade. Stendents in schools which are performing badly on the MCAS tests are faced with stricter, subject oriented learning - their teachers are required to 'teach the tests".
But, that's an assessment of the schools up here, in liberal MA.
Do you like that?? Sounds good to me.
MA does everything first in education, so I hear. First and best.
<curtsy> We are well known for good education. But, it's also liberal ed, which doesn't go over well with a lot of the country.
a lot of the country,....who don't appreciate your liberal ejumacation.
MA figured heavily in my text. I can see why. Higher salaries and innovations.
Are you guys aware of Dave Eggers' project re: salaries and respect?
That's been my bugbear since I graduated. The diehards went into teaching -- much respect to them. The OK people went into teaching -- they'd put in all that training after all. Then there were a whole bunch of people who were the bright stars who went into something else for a variety of reasons, most having to do with the comparitive lack of prestige and comparitively low salary.
I'll see if I can find it. I love that he (Eggers) is DOING something about that.
Hmm... here's a book he wrote, but I thought there was some foundation or something... will keep looking.

Lash - higher salaries, yes. But, we have a higher cost of lving too. I wonder if it evens out.
Soz, thanks for the info <more to read - ugh!>. It's a terrible pay scale. But, the hours and off-time are good.
you must be exhausted. will you be ok to drive home tomorrow? i could...i could...what could i do?
Nothing you can do, Dag, but thanks for wanting to. I just fell asleep on the floor with boots.
uh oh. get theeself in bed soon. getting up so early in the morning isn't for humans.
I was up at 6:45! It is sick, really.
The teacher even admitted to be demented.
After falling asleep on the floor with my dog, again, and eating dinner - I feel almost normal.
Oh my!
Take care, littlek.
I made it back to cambridge!
