Stormwatch - thanks for your input. He does have a behavior plan. It is both complex and ineffectual. But, it's something he understands, so it's not a loss.
We have plans for physical contact. This is one place where I see inconsistencies. According to some, he is not allowed to ever touch anyone. No one can live by this rule. Most feel he is not allowed to touch anyone in their private spaces which include his older favorites, groin and butt, and his newer favorites, the head and face. He is supposed to be pulled for a half hour of down-time to become a part of the classroom when I feel he is ready. For major infractions, he is supposed to spend the rest of the day out of the classroom and his parents are called. He always resists this seclusion at first and always wants to stay once he's calm. He has low ability to self-moderate. He is disregulated - can go from calm to chaos in a moment without any real stimulus. Most often the stimulus is present and takes the form of unstructured peer-time.
The problem is that when I pull him for his half hour he misses lots of academic and social time.
Right now we are trying to make the parents understand that he is still doing fairly well. That we are doing fairly well. In his weaker subjects, he is not the lowest performer in class and in some areas he is on par. He plays in rough recess play with up to 10 kids at a time without losing his control most of the time. He just can't bring himself back down well afterwards.
I have been asking about training of the sort that you recommend. But, no one has taken me up on it.
It's too late in the day.... I have to stop and sleep. More another time.
I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, littlek. But following along this thread is seriously changing my view of teachers. For the better, in case it needs saying, which it does not.
Things continue to improve and settle, but, disregulation is still a major ongoing factor.
Today one second-grader in his Friendship group taught him how to swear with his hand (you know). He had to show everyone! He spent lunch and recess in the office.
<snort>
I remember learning that one the hard way as well...
Hey, Lil'K.
I still read here, just usually don't wanna disrupt...

Sorry if that sounds presumptuous, but I'm proud of you.
Not presumptuous as I drew you all in with apublic thread - thanks!
Glad I ran into this thread: CONGRATS littlek.
Yet another trophy for your "vanity wall"!!!
Or, rather, A trophy for my vanity wall. I don't have any others unless you count photographs.
YAY! Congratulations, littlek, that's a huge accomplishment.
