For the sake of International Human rights, the US and all other countries must accept the International Court of Justice... otherwise there is no guarantee that torture and other acts against humanity will be stopped!!!

What do you think?

best wishes from Switzerland

I believe the US has told the ICC to "suck it."

I think not. Since it is the so called Judicial Arm of the UN, we already know of their anti US Bias and the fact that they to date have done NOTHING to eliminate humas rights violations in many member Nations.

That plus the fact that McGentrix has, in a nut shell, summed up how we feel about the ICJ.

Not in so many words (although John Bolton may have said that recently -- I don't know), but then the real question isn't whether the US has told the ICC to "suck it," but rather whether the US should tell the ICC to "suck it."

I think it is entirely possible that "International Human Rights" (whatever those might be) can survive without an International Court of Justice and that you are mistaken if you actually believe that this court "guarantees" anything. IOW, IMO, you overstate the case here. Wink

I think there is no guarantee that torture and other acts against humanity will be stopped. This is true no matter what nations do about the International Court of Justice.

I'm generally for it myself.

I think I understand the US' reluctance though. There are a lot of extremist organizations in the anti-war movement which continuously make false allegations that we've violated various laws of war, sometimes by accusing us of things we haven't done, and sometimes by pretending that the law bans things that it really doesn't.

Sometimes they even hold fake trials to find us guilty, and then they run around falsely claiming we've been found guilty of war crimes.

Because of this, there is a widespread impression here that the ICC will be used to convict the US on false charges, while letting actual abusers go free.

I happen to think this is incorrect, and the ICC will ignore the frivolous charges against us.

Maybe when the court gets up and running and they form a track record, some of the fears about it will dissipate.
