ooh they have turnip cake
<thud>
is <thud> approval, as in you;re floored at the thought you'll missour company and the turnip cakes, Beth? We;ll drink a toast to yu.
So, kris, since you're our de facto social director/organizational wizard, whaddya think? Is it a go? where and when?
<thud>
is BIG approval
I love good turnip cakes. Aside from wishing I could be down there and going for dim sum/yum cha with you all, I love turnip cakes and scallion pancakes and so many dim sum dishes.
I wonder if China Pearl does that thing with eggplant that's stuffed with either eggplant or tofu ... or mashed tofu dumplings ...
mmmmmm I love dim sum.
Have a great time - take a few pix!
Soooo, could we nail this down? It is less than 24 hours away. How early can Thomas make it? Username has to go by noon.
I am frustrated. I had a really busy social schedule this week which NEVER happens. My Tuesday night plans didn't happen, my Wednesday night plans didn't happen (that was my fault), my Thursday night plans happened only because I forced them (it was fun anyway), My Friday night plans aren't happening because my brother made a bad assumption. I am thinking my Sunday day plans have less than a 50% chance of happening.
So, I have lunch with you all tomorrow and plans for tomorrow night.
Sorry for the vent, but let's set these plans, shall we?
10:00 am at the China Pearl? Yes? We'll be there for a while. Possibly we could walk around downtown Boston for a bit after.
The G.L. willing and if the cricks don't rise, I'll be at the China Pearl tennish.
Oy vayzmir! Dim sum for an early lunch. I'm scheduled to pig out on Mexican fare Saturday afternoon at an early dinner (one of our party can't drive after dark and has to get home to Dedham before the sun sets).
Memo to self: double-check on the Alka Seltzer inventory.
This is causing me to increase my flogs (food blogs) after looking for a good dim sum photo...

I'm in! 10 am works for me. I'm looking forward to the China Pearl, to the walk after -- and, most importanly, to seeing you all.
Yu'all have a bang-up time, and somebody bring your camera to share the event with some of us "too far" to make it in person.
PS: I'll be offline for the rest of the evening. If there's any change in plans, or any of you needs to contact me for some other reason -- littlek has my cell phone number, and my permission to share it with you.
Let us know if Thomas is picking up a Jersey accent. Or is it Joisie?
Ah, yes. Turnip cakes. A staple of the diet in parts of the U.S. in the mid 1930's. And this from my 1931 edition of "The Joy of Cooking" which was and is a classic: "A turnip is not necessarily a depressant." And from 1975: "Children often enjoy these spunky, time-honored vegetables...raw, like apples."
Many of us here on A2K can cook up some awesome turnip cakes. Honest.
great news.... see you all tomorrow!
A paranoid thought just pulled me back to the computer: Are we sure there is only one China Pearl restaurant in Boston, or that all of us are at least talking about the same place? The address where I'm going to show up tomorrow at 10am is:
China Pearl
9 Tyler St
(between Beach St & Kneeland St)
Boston, MA 02111
As an incorrigible optimist, I'm confident that this is where you all are showing up, too. Not!
Thanks Thomas - go have fun.

not the kind of turnip most north americans think of - more of a radish - strongish radish flavour
yum yum yum cha!

have a fabulous time tomorrow!
"cha" is tea in Chinese and Japanese.
I'm hoping they have rose filled dumplings for old times sake. When I was young we used to get these at a Chinese brunch in Lexington. The restaurant no longer exists having shut down a couple years ago after well over 30 years.
