I repeat: it seems to me that the scenario of relatively easy seizure of control over Baghdad accompanied by immediate collapse of Saddam's law enforcement system and consequent mass looting was overlooked by the planners. They did not take into consideration mentality of people that got accustomed to the totalitarian rule: the latter consider that when there is no punishment for crime it is OK to commit it.
It was an error but not an evil will of Americans.

I agree with Streissd and Owi. I personally don't blame the troops for much of the war (sure there are individuals from time to time, but they don't represent the whole). No troops would have encouraged the looting, and no government either (especially Saddam's). The destruction was massive though.

But they took into consideration to secure the oil ministry of the looters but not museums and libraries. Therefor it seems to me that this was a question of priority.

I don't think that this was "an evil will" of America but at least a dramatic error. I think it's legitimate to blame the responsible persons/institutions for this error.

OK, Oil Ministry might have appeared in the initial plans of taking over Baghdad: some documents might have been deliberately shredded by clerks loyal to the Saddam's regime. But no one could anticipate Iraqis being such a barbarians... Well, I thought about this, but if I dared to express my opinion before the events mentioned took place, I risked being accused in racism.

you;re running pretty close to that line right now yeah.

Millions of impoverished people. Bombed, brutalised and cheated for decades. Finally put in a position where they can take wealth for themselves, and they jump at the chance. I don't blame them for it, but I don't condone it and I certainly feel for those at the brunt of it.

Actually I was talking about the people of Israel not Iraq.

"no one" but a guy called Rumsfeld "could anticipate" the lootings. Exclamation

Quote:

WASHINGTON, April 11 (UPI) -- U.S. forces should not be blamed for the lawlessness and looting in Baghdad as it is a natural consequence of the transition from a dictatorship to a free country, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Friday at the Pentagon.

Owi, where have you found this noncense about hemispheric gas(it is known from basic course physics that gases and liquids do not have any permanent shape, and they take shape of the vessels they are being stored in)? May I have a link? Maybe, Mr. Bush's words were changed while being quoted by unscrupulous leftist media?

You trying to suggest Mr Bush has some understanding of basic physics? Can I have a link to some proof of that?

Why should not he: I do not suppose that he knows it on the level of Mr. Einstein, but basics of the school course of physics cannot be unfamiliar to him. This needs no links to prove: since Mr. Bush studied in the university, this means that he has graduated from the high school before entering the university.
By the way, Owi, the sites you proposed are the satitic ones, they are intended to entertain, so they cannot be considered being serious sources of information. If this appeared in some mainstream media, like CNN.com or NYTimes.com, this could be considered trustworthy. I think that the words of the President were taken by his political rivals out of some specific context and ridiculed in order to decrease his popularity.

That's one possibility. Another is that he's an ignorant ass.

"The problem with the French is that they don't have a word for entrepreneur." --Bush

This has been my favorite "Bush-man" quote since I read it in a newspaper here in Japan. You can also find this quote listed on hundreds of websites (a google search for this exact quote turns up 815 sites) & a couple of books.

The hemispheric gas quote may be a real quote, however, the criteria you applied to prove it does NOT work for my "entrepreneur" quote. Read: www.snopes.com/quotes/bush.htm

The "imports coming from other countries" is a good one, I would also nominate a couple that are fine examples of tautology:

"Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace to enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be an assignment."
—Interview with the New York Times, Jan. 14, 2001

"The California crunch really is the result of not enough power-generating plants and then not enough power to power the power of generating plants."
—Interview with the New York Times, Jan. 14, 2001
