Large Sale of Forest Planned
The White House wants to help pay for rural roads and schools by auctioning
300,000 acres of what it considers non-vital parcels.

"Is selling off Bitterroot National Forest or the Sierra National Forest or Yellowstone National Park a good idea? No, not in general," said Mark Rey, undersecretary of Agriculture. ..............

While acknowledging the proposed sale is the largest of its kind in decades, and possibly ever, Rey said the national forest system has swelled to 193 million acres, and that the amount sold would amount to less than one-tenth of 1%. He also said that all of the acreage could be regained in new land acquisitions, although he acknowledged reduced funding for such programs.

mag-

Yes, we saw that. That administration is beyond words.

It is gray, cold, and breezy here, and I can't motivate myself to do anything.

But I did click.

All clicked in here.

Speaking of things re. schools - during the mid to late 1990's when Bush was still Gov. of Tx the state instituted a state Lotto with the promise that the proceeds would be used to lower the school tax (which in TX is REALLY high - ie. on 25 acres I pay $400 in property tax each year - but, I pay $2,000 in school tax and have no child in school)) This year will make about 10 yrs the Lotto has been in effect and the school tax is higher than ever and never went down. No one knows where the Lotto money is going.
Also, re. Bush being elected Gov in the first place. His father HW had some of his friends purchase the Texas Ranger baseball team and allowed GW to purchase 1% of the team. GW then went around acting like he owned the team and gained notoriety and got his face in the local Texas newpapers. It was easy with his dads help in the background to be elected Gov after that.
Based on his past promises about schools I don't trust him.

A cold bright sunshiny day here in Toronto. It's the kind of day that you can't believe that the snow will ever turn into slush. It's brilliantly crisp.

Is the Lotto in Texas the ONLY reason that you don't trust Bush?

Morn'n all,

clicked for MA 'n Me...........

sumac,
No, There isn't a good reason to date that I feel I could trust him concerning anything.
I just wish that the Bush family would actually return the Native American Geronimo's skull to it's rightful burial place. Dubya's grandfather stole it many years ago for inclusion at the "Skull's" fraternity at Yale University.
Oh, that's another thing that I don't understand - most ordinary Texans think Bush is a Texan - he and his family are carpetbaggers from Connecticut.......... Just amazing.

Dan, if they expected to gain anything from stealing Geronimos skull, they've failed miserably.

In 1986, Apache tribal leaders asked that Geronimos skull be returned, so what did the 'courageous leaders' of the Skull and Bones Society do? They brought a skull to the meeting, claiming the skull was Geronimos' - tribal leaders suspecting the skull was not Geronimos, and with further investigation, discovered the skull offered to them was that of a child!

Ned Anderson, the Apache tribal leader, refused to sign a document saying the incident never happened!

Snow can be a beautiful thing.

Maybe not 26 inches of it at a time though.
