Apparently G8 presidency of Russia gives no rest to USA and United Kingdom. Half year before Financial Times had published slashing article smashing to pieces future president and breaking up verbally the whole Club. They said that Canada, and Italy (they're too small), and Russia shouldn't be members of G8.
That fact that Russia is main energetic guarantor of Europe didn't embarrassed USA. They've solved that "problem" and staged gas crisis and once more reproached Russia for her "falling beyond" G8.
It seems to me that Washington and London feel too straitened in such company when someone has opinion different from their one. But they've forgotten that political role of G8 is co-ordination foreign policy, not reciprocation of political education or "teaching democracy".
Russia is quite unsympathetic for many states but she has her right to be member of G8 for she's one of the key figures in such problems as non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and maintenance of mutual nuclear parity. Also she's one of the first-rate energy suppliers.
By the way owing to Russia G8 had gained mostly "Northern dimension" and just Western global leadership and USA first of all had strengthened their legitimacy and influence. Now obviously they're showing their gratitude.
