He said he welcomed "honest critics" who question the way the war is being conducted and the "loyal opposition" that points out what is wrong with his administration's approach.

Ever since I first read this, I have been wondering just what would be considered "honest critics?" I am betting any voiced "honest critics" would be "outside the mainstream."

I hope like anything this slows no one down who has finally started to be "outside the mainstream." It is better to go down fighting than just rolling over and in any event, the truth is the truth regardless of US elections.

Gee, that's pretty damning stuff. How dare our leader recommend civil debate over shrill, useless bickering? And, where does he get off reminding them that the voting public may not approve of the latter?

Did it escape everyone's notice that "the president said (it) to sustained applause from a friendly audience, a gathering of Veterans of Foreign Wars". It seems to me; that's a pretty qualified group of individuals to access the accuracy of his claims. Idea

This line from the article says it best. "Democrats said Bush should take his own advice. "

Well, there may be something to that. Not much profit to be had following the advice of losers.

Bush lumped the many Democrats who have accused him of twisting pre-war intelligence with the few people, mostly outside the mainstream, who have raised the issues of oil and Israel.

What is left to be honestly critical about? In my judgment the president is being fallacious in saying he welcomes honest criticism. But of course I am just being my usual defeatist self. Rolling Eyes
